AMD HSF that will fit in a Cooler Master Elite 100?

Post by gsilver » Sat Nov 12, 2011 9:06 am

I can't find how large exactly of heatsink that this case will take, but I know that it's too small for the Scythe Shuriken.

I'm looking to upgrade my system with either the (out of stock, everywhere) A8-3800, or the 100w A8-3850. The case is rated fro 65w processors, but I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck with 100w ones, or if I can underclock the CPU to get the thermal levels down.

I've replaced the stock power supply to a 250w one, so I should have enough pure power for either.

Need to correct my prior post. The Big Shuriken and Big Shuriken 2 are a few mm too tall to fit and have the lid close.
The Scythe Kozuti will fit height wise, but the heatpipes may hit your RAM or chipset cooler, or both.

I'd hoped to put an Asus M4A88T-I Deluxe +45W Athlon X4 in the Elite 100 and mount it to the back of an LCD, but ran into these exact issues with both HSF's. :(

I'm probably going to wind up changing that plan for a mini ITX 35watt i3 with the Kozuti and find another home for the M4A88T-I Deluxe.
Didn't want to spend that money, but if I use a mATX board the layout of the Elite 100 will likely block access to the FP audio header.
