Hi, my Ninja is also touching one of the caps in my Asus A8N-VM CSM motherboard. Nothing has blown up so far (been running it 24/7) for 2 weeks now.

Yeah, it's not much of an answer, but I guess it's better then nothing. I figure that, if there was somekind of electrical hazard for having your caps touch the heatpipe, something would have already happened.

Mines does the same but in an ASUS K8N. It's been a month and nothing's happened.

Or - you can remove the Ninja, grab a dremel tool and just grind a little bit off of the ninja bracket. It just takes a minute. If it's touching the cap, the Ninja may not be seated properly on the cpu.

There is no electrical issue with touching the caps.

The problem is mechanical. Because the bracket is pressing on the caps, it is not pressing on the CPU as much as it should be. This impairs the heat flow from the CPU case to the heat sink base, and results in higher temperatures than would otherwise be the case. In extreme cases, the heat sink base is no longer planar with the CPU IHS, so that only a corner or edge is making contact.

As others have suggested, it is best to file the offending part of the base so there is no mechanical interference.

You can file it by hand, however I just go to somewhere that cuts keys and ask them to take a couple of mm of the edge.

yeah - any type of metal grinder will work a lot faster than using a file!

heh. The grinding really isn't a big deal..The big deal is that you have to remove the dang thermal compund and reapply. That will take more time than grinding off a few millimeters of metal.

I have a Swiftech heatsink in veeeeery close proximity, if not touching a cap, in my wife's computer. Hasn't blown up in 3 months...

Electrically, it wouldn't be much of a concern, but more of a heat concern. However, I talked myself into thinking that the heatsink would hopefully just help cool the cap if it did touch it :P

I'm going to file it with a grinder and see what comes of it :?

you need to take that mm off of it. it will make difference for your temperatures since ninja is not making proper contact with your cpu just like cmthomson said

Yes of course...The only way is dremel tool or file. I picked the second.

Thank you all guys. I appreciate your help :)

After file the offending part of the base..the Ninja is in good repair now (CPU Temp: 30 C)

I took some pictures of my" SPCR inspired" PC. Will post it soon :!:

The Ninja also touched caps on my DS3...luckily I have access to a grinder at school, so i fixed the offending bracket edge in ~30 seconds or so. dropped temps nearly 10 degrees at load.

Although I don't have a Ninja heatsink, my Zalman has been pushing against a capacitor for two years. It does not have metal-to-metal contact though, it pushes against the plastic/vinyl wrapper.

I'm actually quite happy to pay a bit more money for something I can buy locally from one of the shops here in Darwin, all it takes is a short Bus ride ....
