How to Build a Cheap and Quiet AMD Dually

"Step-by-Step: How to Build a Cheap and Quiet AMD Dually"
This article is an attempt at explaining, once and for all, how to build a cheap and quiet AMD dually. I am, by nature, a very cheap guy. I'm also very, very picky about computer noise. It has been a serious mission, for me, to build an AMD dually that was both cheap and very quiet.

I like how he recommends a 500W+ PSU

You don't really need one, based on what he said. He just recommended one.

But I can imagine that it would need to consume quite a bit of Ws and put out a bunch too.

I'm just gonna wait for the Prescott and get myself a 1000w Powersupply.

Many good tips in that article, although I'd add some personal modifications to recommendations myself:

- for CPU stability testing CPU Burn 1.01 is even better than Prime, although Prime is no slouch either

- in HDs it's useful to remeber the Samsung SpinPoint P80 seriet (16x4 models) as well as Barracud IV, if you can still get them. Single platters being usually quieter than those with several

- Akasa Pax mate??! Uh-huh... Melamine, AcoustiPack, Coolputer lining, even Magic fleece is ok-ish, but Pax mate?? I guess people have different experiences with these materials

Very useful article! Although I doubt his "quiet" is the same level of "quiet" many at SPCR are accustomed to. I mean, those 15K SCSI discs and dual AMDs do pump quite a lot of heat and there is no magic that gets rid of that heat silently.

regards,
Halcyon
