Mugen 5 no fan

Post by haibane » Mon Aug 21, 2017 7:52 am

Hi all,
I am curious if anyone has tried running the Mugen 5 without a fan. I ordered the Mugen 5, but mine showed up without fan clips so I am waiting until Scythe can send me some from Europe. I am just curious if I can boot up and do some basic stuff with just the heatsink instead.

It will work fine as long as you don't load the CPU for long periods of time. If you can touch the heatsink without burning your finger it's ok. Provided that the heatsink is mounted correctly.

It's also not hard to mount the fan using zip ties. :)

...the zip ties connect a fan to the cooler - not to the other fan.

So I must be missing something. It looks like the zip ties are going through the blades then. So you would need roughly 3 zip ties per side so that you can have that notch to hold it on. So roughly 9 zip ties would do. I may do this later tonight and see. Its an interesting concept.
