Interesting thing to note

Post by thesmileyone » Thu Apr 19, 2018 5:23 pm

So it is really hot in the UK right now, around 24 degrees C.

I run my PC fanless except for my gpu which is always on 30% fan speed, but being a blower it doesn't affect the cpu.

I noticed with an increase in ambient temp of 10 degrees the cpu was running 25 deg hotter (celcius). A toasty ish 65C at idle. 2500k, stock, speedstep on so 1500mhz idle.

I take an artic cooler 120mm "silent" 3 pin fan, plug it into noctua fan limiter resistor thing, and pop that in the top rear of the case as an exhaust fan.

45 deg C on all cores.

The problem though? This fan, which is supposed to be one of the quietest on the market, even at roughly 300rpm...not silent. I can hear it. Subtely but its there.

Looks like im stuck with a not-silent PC this summer :( (I was going to change gtx 690 to 1050ti kalmX).

Grr.

To hear a decent quality fan at 300rpm is not common .. and requires very sensitive ears being quite close to it.
Are you sure it's the fan making the noise or is it maybe the grill effecting airflow that is making the noise?

What is your system, including case, CPU cooler, etc?
