Kotetsu vs Kotetsu Mark II fan clip compatibility

Post by Hrafn » Fri Jul 27, 2018 12:09 am

I'm looking at putting together a new build in the next month or so.

For the CPU cooler, I am looking at the heatsink from either the Kotetsu, or its successor the Mark II (which are virtually identical except for their fans), in combination with either Noctua's NF-A12x25 PWM or Phantek's announced-but-not-released 120x30mm fibreglass fan (discussed here).

The Noctua has a semi-closed corner that makes it appear to be more compatible with the clips on the Mark II.

The 30mm deep Phanteks is open-cornered so would probably be more compatible with the original Kotetsu (designed to be used with an open-cornered 25mm fan).

Which of these would give the best chance of being compatible with both fans (in case compelling discounts and/or delayed release make me pull the trigger before the Phanteks comes out, and I end up changing out the stock fan after initial construction)?
