Zalman CNPS7000Cu + Athon 64 3200

Post by hsdhman » Mon Oct 27, 2003 5:59 pm

I've been reading about the Athlon 64 3200+, and its ability to lower its clock speeds when it is not being extensively used.

I've also been reading about the Zalman CNPS7000Cu, and its variable fan speeds.

Is it possible to have the fan shut of entirely at low speeds, or would this cause the temperature to raise too high?

Yes and no. Some fan controllers can shut down the fan entirely.
Even with clock throttling, it seems a small chance that would happen with a 3200+ though.

The Zalman doesn't have an automatic fan control. A Fan Mate is included though, with which you can manually adjust the voltage. Automatic fan control are found (on some) motherboards.

It's almost impossible to have the fan shut down completely, the temps would just rocket too much with normal HS. Anything above 20W is almost impossible to cool passively without forcing some air through the HS.

Speedfan maybe able to control your fans speeds, depending on your mobo compatiblity.
