Passive cooling for Epia M 9000?

Post by mudboy » Sun Dec 07, 2003 5:00 am

I have an Epia M 9000 (C3/933) that I am going to use to build a PVR. I want to replace the small active cooler with a passive one, and I was going to use a Zalman northbridge heatsink. Problem is, it doesnt fit quite right and I don't want to use thermal epoxy to attach it. Anyone found a passive heatsink that will work well?

Thanks

Pete

One solution for non-permanent mounting that has been mentioned before:

Use just enough thermal paste in the center of the chip to cover most of it. Be sure it won't spread to the corners. In the corners use a small drop of superglue to secure the heatsink. A real small dallop of thermal adhesive would work as well.

Since you're not gluing the heatsink down over the entire surface, it should be MUCH easier to remove later. Probably easier than vid card heatsinks.
