After updating the BIOS on my modded BRIX GB-BXi7-5775, the fan is audible at idle.
So I think I need to go with fan speed software rather than relying on the BIOS.
The fan speed software should naturally apply irrespective of who, if anyone, is currently logged into the machine.
SpeedFan doesn't do this right:

Is there any other fan speed software I should consider?
It doesn't need to more sophisticated that what the average BIOS offers, e.g. just a low speed, high speed and threshold for a single fan would suffice. But I would prefer it to have a sensible architecture.

TTBOMK no: albeit you might try whether GB sw for 200-series mobos work (I don't think so, BTW).
