Anyone got pointers to good circuits for thermally controlled fan controllers?
I found the one at www.heatsink-guide.com/tempcontrol.htm and it seems very simple. Downside is that it won't enable RPM monitoring which I think is important if you still want to know what is going on.
Anyone found simple fan control circuits that still enable RPM-monitoring?

I've been looking for something like this. Currently there does not seem to be any aftermarket addons for this. DigiDoc5 comes close, but it only turns fans on/off at preset temps. Some recent mobos provide BIOS control of CPU fan speeds based on CPU temp. Analog Devices actually makes a chip with something like 8 channels of thermal monitoring, each with its own customizable voltage controller. Very cool, but requires a circuit to be desiged around it, meant really, for embedding into mobos. http://products.analog.com/products/inf ... ct=ADM1027
Control Resources Inc. makes a variety of aftermarket products that will thermally control fan speeds. Some of them even have adjustablity features. I've got one of their Wisp II devices wired into my 120mm Panaflo and it works perfectly.

NoiseMagic (formerly NoiseControl of Silverado fame) makes such a device called the NMT-2.

This is the same controller that they use on their new line of CPU coolers, and their well reviewed(in Europe) line of Modified Enermax PSUs.
Some soldering required.

Ive just built one of the temp controllers in that heatsink-guide tutorial, and have to say its pretty cool Especially since its only about £2!.
Quick tip tho, dont use it with papsts! when the voltage is just below the startup voltage they tick like crazy! I think its the same as that bearing tick you sometimes hear with papsts except its much louder! Im gonna have to try it on a panaflo...
on the plus side i did find that my CPU can run passively cooled when im just surfing and listening to mp3s! This is a P4 1.8A @ 2.4Ghz, using an Alpha 8942T heatsink, rises to about 48C then stabilises there!
