Two Pin Fan to Three Pin Connector?

Hi,

I would like to take my two pin fan from my psu and put it on my case. Is it safe/alright to just mod the connectors to fit onto the three pin connects? Whats the best way to do this? Are there adapters available out there?

Thx

I all depends on the shape of the connection and how the wires are connected.

The standard 3 pin motherboard header has the following configuration:

GND 12V RPM

0 0 0
---------

The bottom line illustrates the tab sticking out to make sure the connector is only inserted the right way.

Look at your fan and connector.

Does it accept 12V? Probably. How high the current draw? If it's something large, you probably don't want to connect it to the motherboard.

Does it use the same molex type connection? That a good sign. Does the polarity match (check the position of the 12V and the GND)? That's important. Is there some plastic in the way? If so, get a scissors and a knife and cut it off.

Shouldn't be a problem. But YMMV.
