120mm panaflo for case cooling

Post by GamingGod » Sun Oct 06, 2002 7:45 pm

Hey Im setting up a gamer rig with a 2.53 p4 geforce4 sound blaster and an 80 gb western digital special edition. Is one 120mm fan in the front blowing across the hd and one 120mm in the back under a zalman zm300a going to keep the case cool enough? Im planning on using panaflo 120L's and mounting them with mouse pad material between the fan and case and grommets everywhere else that vibration hits metal.

woooo two 120MM fans? they should keep your case way cool enuff if u have little airflow resistance on the intake and the exhaust of the case :) your HDD should be nice and cool considernig it has a nice flow of cold air across it as well :D I think u might be able to get away with not setting up a fan on top of your CPU if u do some nice ducting work :) but I don't know how hot those P4's get though can't afford one

The 120mm panaflo's you mean 1212l1a right 120 mmx38mm? Dude there noisey at least at 12 V forget about it!
I have two of those on the bottom at 6 V of my case and two nmb 119x25 b-10's on the top! At 6v they are unstable and forget about the panaflo unless your trying to go cheap I would personally recommend the nmb's but that's just personal experiance the best would be to go for nmb's or pabst but those are 20 bucks  !
Anyhow instead of two run 4 @ 5 to 7 volts there are some voltage regulators around here that will help you out there 5 might be a bit low 7 should be good enough that should give you a nice airflow and 4 fans of the same model at half the speed is less noisy that 2 fans at full speed!
anyhow 35 dBA is not that quiet. this guide might help

anyhow hope this helps :)

I've got a 120mm Panaflo running as both my CPU fan, and my only casefan. It's ducted to my Zalman cooler. It's thermally controlled, and runs at approximately 4 volts when the machine's at idle. At that speed its quieter the my 92mm Papst is at 7v.

Its so quiet in fact that I actually cut my finger once on it. I thought it was off and stuck my finger into it! (It was dark, and I was reaching around the back of the case)

I'm running an XP1900,which probably runs about the same temps at your 2.53 P4, with a Zalman 6000Cu.

My Temps are: (approximate 23C ambient)

At Idle:
CPU 41C
Case 33C
HDD 38C

After sustained Load:
CPU 60C
Case 35C
HDD 42C

Hope that helps

everything ive read says that the panaflo 120 L is really really quiet and its rated at 30db not 35 thats the H your talking about i think. I have not heard them for myself but im not going for dead silence, more like high cooling with minimum noise.

Rusty075, can you post pictures (or a detailed description) of your rig?
It sounds like a great setup!

Thanks!

ha you are right it's rated 30 dba not the h though it's the m that's rated 35.5 according to panaflo spec sheet I'll have to e-mail the guy from this forum who wrote that artical interesting to see where he got that data from. but in my experiance the panaflo is significantly louder than my nmb's which are rated 27 dba at full speed but I never run any fans at full speed anyway except my noiseblocker ultra silent 2 on my thermalright slk 800 hehe 19 dba aint that much when the case is closed specially the way my case is dampended.
anyhow I will e-mail the guy and find out where he got those specs.
