Nidec fan vendor?
I have a Nidec 8cm exhaust in my box, and I absolutely love it. Almost silent even at 11V. (haven't got around to replacing the FanMate on CPU fan). It's a rather old specimen; I removed it out of a 1996 Apple Mac. However, I havent been able to find anywhere that sells them (I need an intake b/c my HDDs are at ~32C)...
Specs:
Nidec
Beta V
TA300DC
80x25mm
12v 0.11a
model #: M33414-55

Looks a useful fan range, the Nidec site has a list of distributors, whether any are retailers is the unknown.
And they seem to be confined to N America & maybe Japan.

http://www.bgmicro.com occasionally has a Nidec or two. Same with sidewindercomputers.com and thermalfx.com I also see several Nidec 80mm on eBay, but I'd take the 92mm from bgmicro if it'll fit (or make it fit ). I have one here running off my fan controller - nice and quiet - generally great fans.

C,
I searched high and low for a nidec 120x25mm a while ago. The distributors always had a minimum order or six week lead time. When I wasn't looking, I found a medium speed version at www.akida.net. They don't seem to have 80x25mm fans however.
Judging from the quaulity of the nidec ta450dc that I have, a medium speed sanyo denki would probably be of equal quality although rated at 2350rpm. Here's the model - 109R0812M4011 at www.thermalfx.com. Thermalfx also has an ebay store with cheaper prices and I believe I paid about $9 for one.
A bi-sonic is another possiblitiy at www.mouser.com. And a panaflo L1A is also good. Neither the bi-sonic or L1A have tachs.

I was looking around for another fan and found that http://www.allelectronics lists lots of Nidecs but many are unusual voltages. I would expect that the 24V ones would also work at 12V (maybe lower) as the 12V ones will usually work down to 5V... AE like BGMicro is an odd-lot reseller so it's catch as catch can...
as another above mentioned, if you can find a Sanyo Denki, NMB, Delta of similar specs to your Nidec, you should get similar results. All very well made brands.
