Silent Shuttle SS51G

Post by tnl » Sun Feb 16, 2003 1:41 pm

Several weeks ago, I've read a post on this site where someone replaced the PSU fan of a Shuttle XPC (I believe it was a SS51G) with a much more silent fan.

Now that I've got my own SS51G, I can't find the post anymore... :(

What are good replacement fans for the standard Sunon KD1204PFB1-8 (40x40x10) which comes with the Shuttle SS51G PSU :?:

The thread is called shuttle and should be in the cases forum.

They suggested an adda fan, but unfortunatly my local CompUSA did not carry the fan as suggested. I tries both a Panflow L and M and felt much more comfortable with the M. My mother got the package today and was estatic with the performance and noise levels.

The Panaflo L1a and M1a that you mention in the Shuttle post are 80 mm fans, right ?
The system fan in the SS51G I've got is making less noise than the PSU fan (which generates high frequencies), so I will start replacing the 40 mm fan.
Once the PSU is quiet enough, I can look for other replacements...

Just the panflow M made a signifigant difference in noise level. I have been unable to locate a local source for 40x40x10 that would be more suatable than the fan that's in there.

Snipping the restrictive grilll should make a big differnece too, but I wanted to see what I could get away with before doing that.

I'll do some tests with different fans, and post the results here later on.
