Quiet CPU fan Help!!

Post by Jmissiaen » Fri Mar 14, 2003 2:07 pm

I just bought a new computer that has an AMD Athlonxp 2100+ and unfortunately it has a very loud CPU fan. I was wondering if there is a
quieter fan I could replace this one with without having to modify the fan...or if i cant upgrade just the fan...is there a heatsink and fan combo that any of you would recomend? I am on a tight budget right now because i am only 16 and i would like to have a little quieter fan for not so much $$$. If there is anything that you guys would recomend please let me know.
Thanks,
jordan :?

http://www.svc.com is selling their GC68 for $5 + shipping. That should be a good bet. It'll be a step up in quietness. To go a step higher, you can dial down the fan speed with a Zalman fan controller for another $6 from the same place.

Have you tried undervolting the fan? (no rewiring or anything)

It is not as complicated as it sounds. If its a 3-pin connection you can get a Zalman fanmate (adjustable from 5v-11v) approx <10$ as mentioned, or Zalman Multi Adaptor which has two 5v plugs and two 12v plugs approx <$5.

These will also come in handy for undervolting other fans. :D
