Cooler Master Rifle Bearing TLF-R82 Neon LED Fan....Quiet?

Post by mahkum2 » Wed Apr 30, 2003 4:37 pm

I have searched this forum to see whether there have been any discussion about this Cooler Master rifle bearing fans with out any success.
There are lots of reviews about this fan on the net. Most of them go out of their way to mention how quiet they are. Here are the plus points as far as I am concerned :

Air Flow: 32.11 CFM Acoustical Noise: 25.0dB(A)
3-Pin Connector for mainboard speed detection
Good retail packaging
Readily available
Cheap

I would appreciate further disscussion about this fan and particularly about it's new rifle bearing technology.

Not sure if it's anything like the fan you're talking about (and I'm too lazy to look it up)... but

I just got a Coolermaster XDream with a 80mm rifle bearing fan - and on the lowest setting using the included control (not sure what RPM) it is way too loud to bother with. In the XDream reviews I read, most said the fan was nice and quiet on the lowest RPM setting. But it's LOUD. It has an annoying ztztztz sound to it too. Sounds like a very small bicycle.

It does look nice though. Which is a shame, cause it's chucked in a box somewhere out of sight now.

Thanks for the reply guys. I thought those fans were too good to be true and you have proved me right. Shame though... packaging comes with everything unlike the Panaflo fans with two bare wire leads. I am not into modding so adding RPM sensing to panaflo (as discussed in this thread http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewtopic.php?t=3565 ) is out of the question. May be I should opt for Vantec Stealth fans.

They are not particularly quiet, and if undervolted - even a bit - the LED's turn off.

They do seem around 25 dB(A), but that is too loud for me.
