It's holiday here, i'm bored, my cuda crashed two days ago, the noise from my girlfriend's computer is really annoying, maybe it's time for me to silent it. Here is a view of the mobo :

Using my ears as a tool, i'd rate the CPU fan 150db at least. I have a spare 80mm fan, but no adapter. I also have a Zalman ZM-NB32J waiting for a northbridge to cool. Here is a view of the finished work :

Yes, I only used one screw. No it doesn't budge, nor vibrate (at least not too much, it isn't a very silent fan anyway). As you can see it blows on both the CPU and chipset. The CPU temp as rised a little.

I also placed the HD on foam at the bottom of the case. It gets hot, but it's very silent. Overall, the computer is now very quiet.

Temps are 24c case, 36c CPU, 48c HDD.

Was 150DB a typo? You wouldnt be able to hear if it was quieter because you would have blown your ears! :D

Hmm. Which was bigger? The HSF or the NB fan? :P
Looks too close to call.

That's no "real" DB, AtomicDude, just DB as in "Damn Boring" :)

The CPU fan was not much bigger than the NB fan, and it did vibrate a lot, making the motherboard and case vibrate so much that the only way I had found to reduce noise before replacing this fan was piling heavy books on top of the case.

Anyway, that was a clever move because my girlfriend now enjoys her newly quiet computer, and is beginning to understand why I spend so much time on silentpcreview :D
