EKL Papst 120x120x25 fan? ie 4412FGL (in UK)
Hi all
As some know my planned system with 120mm fans is going ahead nicely, got my SLK3700 and cut out stamped fan grills; must say the case is a mile ahead of my Globalwin802
Onto the fans, I was going to get Papst 120mm 4pin 25mm "4412 FGL" at:
http://www.koolnquiet.co.uk/index.php?m ... alog&id=25 for £20 each
But i found over at komplett.co.uk, this fan:
http://www.komplett.co.uk/k/ki.asp?acti ... w=detailed
I believe it is the very same thing, which is great as its £5 cheaper Thing is, what does the EKL bit mean? Is it a reseller of the same Papst fan? Hopefully its the same fan...
Kind regards

Yeah, it is the same fan. And as you guess, EKL is some kind of distributor for Papst. And even more coincidental/small world, the Kool n Quiet Papst come in a box with EKL marks
And yeah, as per above I got mine from KnQ for £20 knowing it was cheaper at Komplett: except KnQ were at my computer fair (Bracknell) so postage was 0 and delivery instant . As per other posts elsewhere I am really happy with this fan.

means it is wired to hdd molex - a male/female pair with 10cm of connecting wires, so you can insert it between (say) the existing molex and your hdd.y-Double Connector
It's probably just a pass through, so basically you end up not losing a molex connector by adding the fan. 5v/7v should still be possible.. but the pass on will be 5/7v also
I'm pretty new to this so don't take my word for it
I understand the 4412 is a clicky papst? I think Dorothy said the 4312 is the one to go for

Not necessarily. You can simply take the 12V and 5V pins out of the molex connector (by pushing the lock fins in from the pins with a needle or small pliers), cut the fan wire out from the 12V pin, and strip about 4 mm of the jacket/cover from the fan wire.Duncan wrote:It's probably just a pass through, so basically you end up not losing a molex connector by adding the fan. 5v/7v should still be possible.. but the pass on will be 5/7v also
Then open the other pin's (5V in this case) wire holder a bit (the little metal clips at the end of the pin that keeps the wire attached to the pin) and put the fan wire to next to the other wire (so that the bare leads start at the same point). There is no need to open the lead holder (clips that hold the lead in the pin). Tighten with pliers, and twist a tiny bit of tape to wrap the bare fan lead tightly in to the connector to prevent any shorts (basically You will tape the lead on the top of the lead holder). Make sure that it makes a proper contact.
Then put the pins back to the molex, and You have a fully functional passthrough, with 5V fan connector. (If You want, You can also solder the wires, but they aren't soldered originally so why bother)
