Custom fan curves a la Puget?

Post by tackle » Wed Oct 20, 2010 1:30 pm

How does Puget write their own speed curves for the fans in their systems?

They use the Asus P7P55D-E Pro motherboard, which doesn't appear to have any special settings other than Q-Fan Control which I assume doesn't give such precise control.

If you have a CPU PWM fan and enable CPU Q-Fan Control in the Asus P7P55D-E Pro BIOS this will then display a CPU Fan Profile item. The selectable profiles are Standard, Silent, Turbo and Manual. I have used the Silent profile on Asus motherboards and it works very well. If this is not enough, there is the Manual profile which, to quote Asus, "....enables detailed fan speed control parameters to be set". This is what Puget are using. Essentially it is a BIOS alternative to software control such as Fan Xpert.
