Case fan control using Asus Fan Xpert I

Hey folks,
I'm having a little bit of a hard time setting up a case fan control profile using Asus Fan Xpert (not II). This is my wife's system, hardware details are as follows:
- Motherboard: Asus P5QL Pro
- Case Fans: 2 x Vantec Stealth 90mm 3-pin (model #SF9225L)
- Connection: Both fans connected using a Y-splitter to CHA_FAN motherboard connection
Both the BIOS fan monitoring as well as Fan Xpert have no problem reporting the speed of the case fans (~1800 rpm): However, when I go to try set up a profile for the case fan, I notice that the fan selection drop down list only contains the CPU Fan, it doesn't appear to list the case fans: Is this a software limitation of Fan Xpert? I don't imagine it would be otherwise why bother having a dropdown there if it's not going to work (and I don't think I could use Fan Xpert II as it's generally available with motherboard specific tools/drivers). It obviously works with 3-pin fans as I can set a profile for the CPU Fan without a problem. Anyone have any ideas as to what's going on here?
