Best white 140mm fan option?

Post by Copyright » Thu Nov 26, 2015 11:33 am

Looking for a good silent all white 140mm fan for rear exhaust in my case. Rear grill has been cut away to help with wind noise. I really like the look of hte Aerocool Dead silent but not sure how quiet it is. I know they only slow down to about 600rpm. Also thinking about maybe a Phanteks option. I have PWM control available. Currently using a Noctua Redux but it's not matching my theme the way I want it to.

How do you rate, noise-wise, the stock fan of your Phanteks PH-TC14PE?

If you have 120mm mounting holes you should try Thermalright TY147A.

That was one of the fans I wanted but I had trimmed out the rear grill to allow for better flow and less noise.. in that process I removed the 120mm fan mount area.

I really like the Aerocool DS 140 in white but not sure if it's any good.. I read mounting it as top exhaust it will have issues but thats not how I plan to use it.

If I were you, I'd just try it, given the rather low starting voltage (>3.0V: moreover, as a matter of fact they claim to use a fluid dynamic bearing in it, so apparently there's no reason why it should give any issue while mounted as top exhaust).

As a personal guess, another option (along with the EBR equipped TY147A adviced by Abula), could be the NZXT FN V2 (1000rpm max): SPCR, talking about the H440 enclosure, said about it that "The 140 mm model at the back is particularly exquisite with a clean smooth sound throughout its range... The included fans imbue the system with a pleasant sound straight out of the box, even at higher fan speeds" - while, talking about the higher speed variant NZXT FX V2 (1500rpm) used on the X61 AIO, SPCR said that: the stock fan is one of the best sounding 14 cm models we've used.

I think ill give the DS a try.. I question the quality of the bearing after reading so many reviews of this fan dieing in a matter of a couple months when mounted as top exhaust. Guys are saying as soon as you turn it to blow upward the fan starts making noise. Not what I would call a quality product which is a shame. Most of the nicest fans out there are pretty horrible when it comes to what we look for in a silent option. Not always easy to have both great looks and silence.

Another fan that might be worth checking specially because of the white restriction is the NB-eLoop® Series 140mm, in my expirience with the M12-S1, they go 100rpms more than what they are rated, so if the behavior is similar, i would go with Noiseblocker NB-eLoop B14-1 Bionic fan 600U/min ( 140x140x29mm ).

Love the look of the noise blocker but I had a few of those in the past and they made some really weird noises.. the two exhausting air out the top made the worst noise compared to the one blownig out the back and they really didn't seem to move much air at all. I thought those fans were designed for radiators?

They're just bad-designed (very personal thought).

We have the same opinion of them.
