Replacing stock fan on an old Phenom 965

Post by Mactwenty9 » Tue Dec 11, 2018 1:45 pm

I want to replace the stock fan on an old Phenom II X4 965 w/a Coolink-SWiF2-800-80mm and was hoping someone knowledgeable could answer a couple of questions.

I've read the stock fan is 65mm or 70mm or 80mm depending on search results. Not sure but I believe that's the size for the fan. I believe the Coolink fan will move enough air, CFM wise, for normal speed or perhaps a mild OC. Think I can somehow remove the stock fan, and one way or another connect the Coolink fan to the plastic above the block. If worse comes to worse I'll try gorilla glue or ties.

Anyone ever removed that fan? Can I connect another fan using screws? Anyone know the true size of the stock fan? I guess as long as I can connect a new fan it doesn't matter.

Thanks,

Mac

You are on the right track with your replacement fan choice as the most important part is the fan thickness is 25 mm. There are different editions of the cooler. You'll have to get out the ruler.
