First English Zalman CNPS-7000 review

Post by Herb W. » Fri Feb 14, 2003 2:32 am

First English review of the CNPS-7000 at Casejunkies.

The short story: it gives the same degree of cooling as a 6500 with a considerably lower fan speed - about 1300 vs. 1800 rpm. Even in the reviewer's quiet system (low-voltage fans, passive GPU cooler) it was considered silent at its quiet setting. Claimed C/W is extremely low: .27 silent mode, .22 normal mode. Performance of the Al/Cu variant found to be nearly as good.

Wow!
A 92mm fan equipped "Orb-type" copper cooler! 8) Adjustable speeds of the fan included.... hmmmmm, maybe the SLK-900 might get passed for that new Zalman monster. Thanks for the info, looks very good

Looks pretty nice! And considering his fsb is at 153 instead of 133 the results aren't even that bad!

Yea I was wondering about that myself, no way can I afford to buy a new heatsink if the fan goes out. Hmmm I wonder how it would perform with a panaflo 90mm L1A or M1A, with the outside casing cut off. I wonder if it would fit?

I don't think you want to do that. It looks to me like the fan blades have a weird angle, probably to direct the airflow wherever it's supposed to go ..

Well,

about the fan, they said in the review that:

..The fan is fixed on the FHS but if needed, it can be removed together with the clip. ...

So I think it is quite safe to assume that in case of a fan failure a replacement can be ordered/bought from any of the various retailers that provide this fan. Also we should propably wait for a conclusive test with the heatsink and a normal fan.

Oh, BTW, Zalman has just released the CNPS7000 on their Korean website,

Too bad I don´t have a clue what they say...

Hi Marc,

The Zalman CNPS7000 is currently in the process of being mass produced, it is expected to be in the distribution channel around mid March at the earliest. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact us!

Wow, 775 grams

That's 50% bigger than the already massive SLK-800.

I sure hope its through bolted, and not just lugged on.

Hey, it's still not 898 grams like the 6500 is. The Case junkies tests seem to say that the all-copper ver. performs as well as the 6500 with a lower speed fan...

The picture on this page shows how it mounts. It uses the original retail Intel plastic mounting base just like the 6500 does. I guess if they feel comfortable having the 6500 suspended by the MoBo using those four little white plastic push-pins they figure they've got room to breath with the lighter 7000!
