The latest CPU power consumption figures from Tom's Hardware, including the new LGA775 P4s:

http://www.tomshardware.com/motherboard ... 75-49.html

The tables look impressive and the figures appear to be isolated CPU power consumption rather than for the whole system, but it's a pity their test/benmark setup pages don't detail the configurations or methodology used. In any case, the LGA775 CPUs look extremely power hungry.

 Whoa! Look at that step function. The reason for the canning of Netbust in one single graph!

Hmm, weird!

The P4 3.4GHz S775 draws 3 times more power at idle
than the P4 3,4GHz EE . What's even worse: 30W extra at
full load, offering no or just marginal performance increase!

This must be the most sophisticated way of wasting power (and noise).

Our only hope is a bad test methodology.

some random rants:
No explanation of test techniques.
No Disconnect enabled for Athlon XP.
No Cool'n'Quiet enabled for Athlon 64 (needs more power at idle than Northwood)

In other words.... a typical Tom's Hardware article.
