Is this rad any good?

Spotted this on eBay:

Looks like a bargain, perhaps too good to be true. Anyone care to comment on how effective it might be? The claims of 55C passive on an XP2000 are impressive if true...

i wouldn't bother.

1) it's really big, i doubt you'd be able to fit it in your case

2) it's the crappy long-tube-going-through-lots-of-fins style which isn't nearly as good as a traditional heatercore design with lots of flat tubes

3) it's aluminium, so will encourage corrosion when combined with copper items (e.g. your waterblocks)

4) 55c passive using which waterblock? idle or load? too vague imo.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I have been looking at the company web site: http://www.sc-shop.net/de/index.php

€60 for a complete CPU-only set-up, and the GPU/NB blocks are not too expensive either.

I was going to go the route of getting a heatercore, pump and blocks separately but a basic DangerDen CPU block is €60 alone. Been checking eBay but I'm not sure about buying a second hand block. Sadly all the blocks Silent Cooler make are for 3/8 ID tubing and I would like to try 1/2 ID.

As for space, I have a very large server case so it's not too much of an issue.

Still, if it won't be up to much then I guess I might have to give it a miss. I couldn't find any reviews of any of the kit on the web site for comparison, unfortunately.

i wouldn't get that €60 setup, the pump is questionable and the waterblock is a rather woeful attempt at cloning the whitewater design. the €90 setup might be worth a look but honestly, i would much rather invest in a high quality kit. innovatek, swiftech, dangerden, silverprop.. anything really. just stay away from the cheap stuff is the best advice i can give. watercooling is a very open market at the moment and unfortunately there are people taking business to it with questionable priorities.

Okay, thanks chylld. I guess I'll keep looking for parts. Your sticky is excellent, btw, and I have been inspired by it to seek out a heatercore!

Good to hear! I save about $100 USD by going for a heatcore...and it is more capable as well! :D

Okay, I got one! Piccys tomorrow when I have time, but it's basically about 26x18x6 cm and should do me prowd.

Next question: blocks. Been looking at this company: http://www.frigus.nl/

Their stuff looks nice, although it's all 10mm tube based. All European blocks seem to be this way, as if only people in the UK and US use 1/2" (13mm) tubes. Not sure how much difference it will make. I'm bidding on an Eheim 1048 which might be better with 1/2" tubing. Could get barbs but would that really help?
