silent solution

i m looking for a silent solution for my P4 2.0a. i m thinking to get a zalman 6500alcu flower cooler and a enermax 365 power supply, 2 vantec stealth 80mm case fan, what do u think?
i m doing audio recording and i need a super quiet pc.

Enermax power supplies are loud. Either get a nexus 300w (expensive) or get a seasonic 300 (which is much cheaper and almost as quiet) and if you want it to be even quieter than you can always just replace the stock fan. Some people like vantec stealths, but generally panaflo L1A's are concidered to be quieter.

so it is not necessary having the flower cooler? or should i just get a fan for the cpu? what about my cpu cooling?
i can pick up a flower cooler here for about $65 canadian which is not bad. what do u think?

Get the Zalman flower (all copper). The P4 versions are great.

some ppl said the all copper is over weight, is it a problem? or i better off getting a 6500alcu zalman?

there is also a new zalman heatsink the 7000 that looks promising. Reviews say that it works as well as the flowers but are even quieter. Also check out the recommended heatsinks http://www.silentpcreview.com/modules.p ... =30&page=1 here

sure the 7000 looks hot

but not for sale here.
just one more question, does the 6500alcu run quieter than my stock P42.0 stock cpu fan? i have asus p4b533 and i enable the Q-fan funtion and run the fan 2200rpm, i still think the fan is a bit noisy. the temp is around 47C/2200 rpm cpu fan while loading the cpu at 90%, is it normal?
will i get better result having a flower cooler running silent mode same cooling?

At this time, a thermalright slk900 w/ Panaflo 80L (or 92L or other similarly quiet fan) at ~7V will give you the best quiet air cooling for a P4. (May change in a month or two.

)Best to think of the HS as separate from the fan -- the SLK900 is simply a more efficient cooler than the 6500cu. Check the review on the main SPCR site if you haven't seen it already.

Don't think it is available anywhere in Vanc. New Type Computers carries a small selection of Thermalright but the 900 is not listed. Not yet anyway.

i check with new type and they carry slk800 only.
now i have to pick between 6500alcu and 6500cu, heard the all copper is a bit heavy on the cpu, what do u think? only $10 difference.
what i want is, i m happy with the temp now but i try to take away the noise from the oem cpu fan and have the same cooling, is zalman a good choice?

You can always run the stock Intel HSF at 5v (very quiet) with a zalman fanmate or similar. It suprisingly performs quite well at this voltage, when compared to other HS as shown in Mike's P4 roundup.

The best thing though it's free..

I will probably invest in the SLK-900 when it becomes available in the UK for a little bit of overclocking with a panaflo @5v.

i did a little test last nite, hook my 2 vantec stealth 80mm case fan to 5V, go to bios, enabable the ausu Q-fan running the cpu fan at 2,100rpm, with my enermax 365 dual fan psu, not too bad for the noise level, i do find out some high frequence noise coming from either my dvd rom or cd rewrite.
anyways, start my pc from cold, running a digital recording software, pushing the cpu at 95% for a good 30mins, monitoring the temp with asus pc probe, cpu temp 49C and mobo temp 36C, let it cool down for another 10mins, idle cpu temp is 38C and mobo 34C.
do u think i can get better than that with a good HS and fan? i dont mind spending money as long as it works.

Yes, it can be better.

But are you going to use the enermax 356?? Too noisy for my tastes. I'm sure that your PSU is the noisiest component of your setup.

You can archieve better temps with less noise with a Zalman 6500CU + panaflo undervolted (I have a zalman6500CU and i havent problems with the weight, just take care if u r going to move your pc) ... or as mike said with a SLK900 (the best option right now)

BUT... if u dont change your PSU for a silent one or dont replace enermax psu fans with a single panaflo undervolted... replace intel stock cooler with a zalman&panaflo is a waste of money IMO.

by the way... do you need to run 2 vantec fans?? Perhaps only 1 will be enough.
