JUNK the vantec stuff.
If you have a little extra dough, slap a thermalright on that bad boy.
Replace the Stealths with Panaflo L1As (which seem to be the reigning champions) or other fans on the SPCR recommended lists.
Umm ditch the WD, get a Spin Point.
Go with the Samsung (This I gather from the people around here, I personally think that it doesnt matter...)
If you have any other questions about products, just go to the main page and look at the recommended items.

i cant find the samsung hdd, but i will try
for the cpu fan/hs, is aeroflow that loud? the thermalright is quite expensive, along with a fan, plus i cant find panaflo... (i live in taipei)
about the zalman nb hs, how much would it help?
how bout the zalman 7000a cu? that is quite expensive, if i buy that i would settle with the original case fan...

The hard drives matter a bunch in a true quiet system. I was in need for more storage (I had an 80gb Seagate IV as my C drive), so I purchased 2 other HD's that with rebates and coupons were great deals- a WD 800JB (for $20) and a Seagate 120gb ST3120026AS ($40).
The noise from these drives wasn't a problem until I replaced my Antec 430w with a Coolmax Taurus (totally silent- at 1 meter at least) and my Antec fans with undervolted TC-1's (3 of them in an Antec 180AMG case). It was at this point that the motor hum of the WD and the high pitched whine of the 26AS were totally annoying.
Fortunate for me, I was able to build a friends computer using both of the offending drives, picked up a Samsung to complement the Seagate IV and now the loudest part of my computer is the Zalman 7000AlCu at 1400 rpm.
ps- anyone have a quieter solution to the Zalman cooler?

You could try decoupling the fan of the 7000 and/or replacing it.
Yes, the Heatlane Zen.cruelsister wrote:ps- anyone have a quieter solution to the Zalman cooler?

I found the panaflo L1A fans now, and the SLK-900A thermalright hs
here's my idea now - SLK-900A with L1A, Seagate 80G ST380013AS, another panaflo L1A as system fan
plus the normal spec i had
FSP 300W PSU
AXP Barton 2500+ OC to 2.2
Geforce Ti 4200 128mb (280/520)
what do u guys think?
