My PC is reasonably quiet now. Loudest part being the whine coming from the PSU. It's great when I'm up late, or home before everyone else.

However...

When my parents come home from work (living at home for the summer term), my Mother talks on the phone almost 80% of the time. When my Dad has the day off, he pesters me about my waking/sleeping habits.. comes in every 20 minutes to lecture me because he has nothing better to do during Tennis commercial breaks..

I've resorted to turning up my speakers (the amazing sounding MX5021) and closing the room doors. Anything else I can do?

I haven't lived at home for 25+ years so they don't bug me except when they phone me.

Here's a solution for you:

1) Get a job so you can pay your own rent,

2) Move out.

Voila, no more parental noise! :)

Heheh lucky you :)

I've been searching for a job for two months now.. student jobs are a tough one to get. Recently been edged out of two possible job opportunities. Even in that case, I need to keep that money for tuition!

Maybe a decent set of noise cancelling headphones would work.

What are you in school for?

Can you find a summer internship that deals with your schooling?

I know Intel will hire students for the summer if you are pursuing anything remotely close to technology.

Hi Deheinx,

I'm going to be entering third year at U of Toronto taking Chemical Engineering. Not very close to technology at all, but perhaps my fluids and heat transfer courses would help them design a new cooling solution

Early second term I sent out a bunch of resumes to local places, but none of them replied.. this coming year I'm going to start contacting people before Christmas. Yarrrgh.

I had the same problem back when I was in school (parents I mean), my solution was just never to be home or awake at the same time they were. I was putting myself through school so moving out wasn't an option. I took a couple of night jobs so our schedules only overlapped for about an hour before I left for work. On the plus side, about a year later my parents relized I was an adult about a year later and stopped nagging me as much.

naggy parents aren't a lot of fun, i'm blessed with two here.

Just pretend like you're listening and go out and get hammered a lot.

I second Ralf's notion.

Worked fine for me for several years :).

I'll second Ralf's comments....

As my Dad always said: "If you don't like it here, pack your bags and get your ass out"

For those of us growing up and in school,or in college like me, parents are like the moving parts in a computer. They make the most noise and you want to get rid of them but you cant afford too.

If you were philosophically inclined, would you ponder whether the reverse is true also? ;)

Haha, and while you're at it, acousti-pack the outer walls of your room.

I'll 3rd Ralf's comments!

Actually in an increasingly 'disposable' society it is becoming harder to realise you are dealing with a 'new' problem: you only get 1 set and replacement is not an option. Danger being you only work this out when it is too late.
