Extremely low power and quiet pc

Post by elec999 » Mon Jul 12, 2004 9:31 pm

I am trying to build a pc that will run 24/7. This pc should have a hard drive with at least 120gig on storage. It will run 24/7. What would the most quiet hard drive, and hard drive cooler be. I am also looking at a cheap, but deeply undervolting motherboard. I have a duron, I also have pure copper slk900 heatsink. I would love to also quiet down my power supply. The pc should run at a low speeds, cpu fan should be at low, I sohlud sometimes we able to run my cpu at full speed. Ill probally be using a duron900, or a better amd xp series. I will all the fans in the case running low and making enough air to cool my stuff.
Question, what are the best and most quiet fans. I dont want my cpu to overheat, when fan at low. Quiet fan to put in my psu, or possible to slower, but quiet fans for the psu. What are the best way of making all these possible. Possibly needs 3 fans, 1 to 2 in the psu, 1 cpu, 1 hard drive. 1 to 2 Case if required not a must. Please tell me what would be my best options. Even if I could ever buy a amd mobile, or amd neodeo, via epia anything. But right now trying to use my current cpus. Cheaping cheap.
I need fans, *cheap* undervolting motherboard, quiet hard drive. Please correct me if my information sounds incorrect.
Thanks

Most, if not all, of the information you're after is already in the forums. Read the 'sticky' threads in the areas you care about (e.g. power supplies, fans & control) and you'll learn a lot. From there a few good searches will get you a lot more. Once you have a handle on the information that's out there you will be able to ask more direct questions, which will certainly lead to more pertinent and useful answers. It will pay off, trust me.

And, welcome to SPCR!

Sounds like a perfect app for Mini-ITX. One of the early fanless ones.

I put together a VIA C3 600. The whole board and the CPU cost $50. With a short internal duct to the CPU, the entire computer runs just fine off the PSU fan. I've tried to kill the thing, but no matter what, the CPU never goes over 44C. I'm using a laptop HD in it.

While not powerful, it still can do almost everything, and remains ultra-quiet.

I looked at some threads and deciding to choose, some slow fans and try to do a 7v mod. CUrrently can someone recomend me a undervolting motherboard for amd. Or is there any way to volt mod a Asus board to reach 1.1 volts.
Thanks

There's an entire article on the main site dedicated to nothing but undervoltable boards -- and a super long thread on the same here in the general forum. (Just open your eyes and read -- like this:  )

This is not a good attitude to express on a website whose sole reason for existence is to share information with written words. There's only one way to get that info: By Reading.

But it's so much easier when people just tell you the answer
