... you can help with hardly any effort to Boost SPCR's Alexa ranking.

I switched from Firefox to IE for my SPCR browsing. It's not too bad, and all of IE's quirks just remind me of how much I love SPCR!

...is this what feels like to be married? :P

That is the worst recommendation you have made so far.

I have a question.

I spend quite a lot of my time removing nastly software from people's PC's.

My personal opinion is that, there is NOT ONE single toolbar that is worth having.

Whether they are good or bad is irrelevant to me, the closest toolbar that gets close to being useful, is the Google toolbar, but why bother with that, why not just set your "Home Page" to google.???

Anyway, back to the point.

Is "Alexa", the same thing that "Spybot S+D", AND "AdAware" both detect as "Alexa Related" and suggest that you remove it.

If "Alexa" is what the two best "Free Malware" (in my opinion) removers detect, then with respect MikeC, you must surely be joking.!!!

Only Google recommend people install Evil Malware on their PC's, but that I am sure is just because money has a higher priority to Google, than Ethics.

All you have to do to prove this point is Google "stopsign", right at the top, whereas, all of the other items listed are how to get rid of the damned thing.

DO NOT EVER INSTALL STOIPSIGN ON YOUR PC UNLESS YOU HATE YOURSELF.

[EDIT]: I thought I best explain why Stopsign is such an evil product, simply put, it's almost impossible to get rid of, and it does the EXACT OPPOSITE of what it claims to do.

The Antivirus is useless.
It CREATES popups.
It IS spyware, and only removes competing products (kind of like Peter Kim).
I dont know or care if it blocks SPam, it probably reads your e-mails, and forwards the juicy ones.

Also there are huge amounts of people who have used it, due to the free on-line check, the on-line check finds things, when you buy it, they are mysteriously no where to be found.

Andy

The only way I'd ever download anything from Alexa is if someone had a gun to my head. Even then, I'd have to put some serious thought into it first. I love SPCR, but man I hate Alexa

The software that Alexa makes/distributes is listed by Ad-Aware, Spybot, Trend Micro, Microsoft, and eTrust as malware (spyware, adware, etc.). I would not recommend anyone to willingly process anything having to do with that company or any of its affiliated sites.

Frankly, I am with my peers above; I am appalled SPCR would promote such a thing.

Err, why should SPCR delete a thread just because it's old? Some of the oldest threads on this site are the most informative.

And in the interest of making the end (hopefully) of this thread as informative as other old threads here on SPCR, let me add that: Yes, the Alexa toolbar is "spyware", but it has to be, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. Just because spybot lists it as spyware doesn't make it evil, and doesn't make Mike stupid for suggesting that users use it to help promote the site. Just think about it....the toolbar's purpose is to gather data on the popularity of websites. To do that, it kinda has to somehow report that data back to the mothership, right? And since it doesn't ask you to do it manually, which would make the results meaningless, (you're not likely to report that you spent the day browsing goatsintutus.com), that makes it spyware, technically, but not in the kneejerk reaction way that OmegaZero and theyangster were thinking.

Yeah it does. Must be down right now due to overloaded servers. Check back again later, or you can just visit the goatpr0n sites on the usenet.
