Serial ATA drives -do not- come with power cable converters

Post by dbri » Tue Mar 11, 2003 8:23 pm

I just got two barracuda V's and guess what, no power cables. Serial ATA takes a different power plug and I read some where on the internet (yeah i know, im an idiot) that all the first generation disks would come with converters.

anyways i hope some poor soul reads this before they too are in my predicament.

Did the buy them OEM or retail? The extras like cables usually only come with the retail kits.

You probably bought this.

It's a bare drive, not a retail kit. I suppose there is no cable in this case.

A quick Google search revealed that KD Computers is selling SATA power adapters.

I've never dealt with them but I've heard they are a decent outfit. Hope that helps.

I've bought a lot of stuff from KD Computers, they're fine to deal with.

Lifetime Reseller Rating of 9.46, six month rating of 9.33, it doesn't get better than that.. Maybe they'll actually pay you to get the adapters from them!

I know this doesn't help your problem, but this is FYI :
Most Serial ATA HD's that are being produced right now have both the new and the old power plug, and will continue to have so for a certain period of transition.
New power supplies with the new harddisk power connectors already attached to their cables are already starting to appear.
