SLK800/900 in 'suck' mode

Post by Gekkani » Sat Mar 22, 2003 9:45 pm

Please could anyone try to put the SLK 800/900 in sucking air mode??

I need a HS that performs well in this mode and i wondering if SLK could do this ... perhaps it shape is not good to suck air.

I know that Alpha performs well but perhaps SLK performs better so i'd like to know it before do a buy.

Help welcome

thx mates

The SLK-800 doesn't work well in "suck" mode. Temps run 2-5°C higher than if the same fan was turmed around to blow down on the heatsink. I've played with this heatsink in both configurations using a varity of 80mm fans, mostly less than 30cfm versions.

Alpha 8045 and 8942 are designed to "suck" with their shrouds at the top of the heatsink. They generally work better in "sucking mode" than in "blowing mode".

But how would one of these perform with a shroud over the top 1/3rd and elevating the fan a bit? Image
