Heh...I don't know for certain but? Yate Loon D80SM-12S .14a is a black frame and fins, 80mm sleeve bearing fan, with a 3 pin connector. Mine peaks at 2200 rpms and at 6v is below 1000rpms( can't read lower). Using a fan-mate, it does start without problems at the lowest setting...6v I think.

I found it in a big box of fans I have. It probably came with some case I got a few years ago. This thing is quiet. I don't have an L1A to compare it with, but this is easily the quietest 80mm fan I ever heard.

And now you know why the Nexus fans have displaced the Panaflo's as the de-facto recommendation.

While not exactly the same as the Yate Loon Nexus sells as their 80mm, you fan's specs are pretty close. Their's is lower in amperage and RPM's, but I'd bet that your's is only a notch away, model-wise, from it.



But now the $64000 question.....

If you wanted to buy a second one just like that, who sells them?

I made another test with this fan, using a MB that I knew could read low rpms accurately. At the fan-mate's lowest setting of 6v, it runs 960rpms. At the highest setting of 11.5v, it runs 2000rpms.

I did some searching also.....apparently there are several versions of this fan. One even was a clear frame/UV model. At $4 they were OOS.

They apparently make all the speeds of models with sleeve and with ball bearlings, so there are at least 6 models of Yate Loon 80mm fans...

I think the lowest setting on a fan mate is 5 volts.

Yesterday I tested a 12cm high speed sleeve bearing yate loon I swapped out of a fortron, it starts fine plugged into a 4.5 v ac adaptor with 20 ohms of resistors, at which point it starts to be decently queit, haven't tried it any lower.

well availability of the yate loons is the killer, and you can always buy nexus, but then the killer becomes price. Panaflo is still the reference for 80mm, although not the top recommendation;).

I have a Yate Loon D80SM-12A .14A and it is the most quiet of fans that I have found out of trying various 80mm fans from different mfg's. Haven't tried a Panaflo yet though.

I too have one of these fans, quite readily available here...but when running, there's a noticeable bearing noise which goes "sssshh" Still prefer the panaflo though, less bearing noise.

While I am 100% sure the orange 120mm Nexus fan is made by Yate Loon (It is "printed" on the side of the frame.), I don't think the other sizes Nexus fans are made by Yate Loon too.

• The three sizes Nexus fans have each a fan frame with corners that look different. Most manufacturers use a same looking frame for all sizes.
• The Nexus 80mm looks completely different from the Yate Loon 80mm pictured above.
• The packaging of the 120mm fan is completely different from the other two sizes.
• The type numbers of the three sizes are completely different.
  • 80mm -> SP802512L-03 (Looks like a Bi-Sonic.)
  • 92mm -> DF1209SL-3 (Found here, it isn't written on that page, but the label in the picture looks like a label from Dynaeon.)
  • 120mm -> D12SL-12 (Definately a Yate Loon.)

Humm....the picture looks like my Yate Loon, but the model# is different. Mine is a D80SM-12S, with the "S" meaning sleeve bearing, I think. From the description, that fan has a ball bearing, which gives it some motor noise. My D80SM-12S has no motor noise, only a wind sound. FWIW....the words "Yate Loon" are cast into the frame, just like my `120mm Yate Loons that came with a Black Knight case.

Too bad the D80SM-12S is so hard to find. It's a great fan....even has RPM monitoring.

I tested the afforementioned D12SH-12 with some batteries, it starts at 3.9v and does not start at 3.5. Is this good, would this be likely to also be the case with their other fans, or is this just normal for 12cm fans with large hubs and 5 blades?

I think their 120x120x38 and 140x140x25 fans have potential.

If only there were cases with room for 14cm fans...

while 14cm is getting a little rediculous, you could certinly cut out a hole large enough in the side or top of a case. Maybe even from or back of case if you had enough room (front of my csae may with some cutting).

My wife got me a nice Plano 777 tackle box to organize my parts, wires, fans etc. I found two of these Yate Loon fans, though they are clear framed.

Anyone want them? Cost is the price of shipping.
