Gee to many things to think about, so little time!
I am looking at the Antec SLK3700. Two things that stand out is that it only comes with one fan which is not quiet and the Power Supply is not quiet.
Is there a model/case that comes with the quieter power supply like one from the True Power series?
Is there a model/case that comes with the quieter fan (120mm)?
Should I just focus on the Antec Sonata, which is touted as a quieter case?
Is there a quieter case?
Thanks!

WELCOME TO SPCR !!!
Take a look at the Antec 3000B. It's got better exhaust grills and does NOT have a PSU so you can buy your own quiet one. And it's cheaper and looks better
You'll find the people here praising the Seasonic Silencer or Tornado series heavily and for good reason.
The stock Antec fans aren't really quiet yes, but they undervolt nicely and noise also drops nicely. So you can run them at 5V and see if it works for you before going out to replace them with Nexus fans.
I'd stay away from the Sonata. Too many problems to fix.

OK Sonata is out >
The Antec Solution Series Black ATX Mid Tower Case, Model SLK3000-B is a good-looking case!
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 152&depa=1
Looking at the images it appears that the case has two USB ports in the front two in the back. Is that correct? There is housing for only one 120mm fan, correct? The power supply would house the other fan correct?
You mention that Nexus makes fans so I looked at the Nexus Silent Power Supply NX-3500, any comments about that power supply?
I read up on the Seasonic Super Tornado PSU – sweet!

cdplayer,
The 3000B has an additional 120mm fan mount (but no fan) up front before the hdd cage.
There's a review of the NX3500 on this site, also a review of the quieter NX4090 too.
FWIW, I tend to favor 80mm fan PSUs (Seasonic Silencer) to 120mm fan ones (Tornado). But it also requieres that you go fiddling inside the PSU to undervolt or change your fans. So if you're not the type to do that the Tornado would probably be a better choice for you. Get one of the A3 revision.

Thank you for replying burcakb!
I am not the type to go fiddling inside the PSU well not yet . This will be my first PC build. My goal is to put the pieces together properly. Maybe on my second PC build I will feel a lot more comfortable playing inside the PSU. Thanks for the search tip! The way it stands now I will be buying the Tornado.
Cheers!
Happy New Year!

Hey, what´s this big black thing here? *puts finger in PSU* ZAP!
I would not recommend the nx-3500, it ramps up wery quickly after start-up on my system. No matter if i have rear and front fans blowing/sucking at 5V or 12V.. quite annoying. The NX-4090 is much better, it doesnt ramp up but the one i have has wery high coil-whine so i wont use that either.. Good psu if you get one that does not whine.

Hello nici!
Thank you for replying!
Just finish reading the review about the Nexus NX-4090. As you said it sounds like a great PSU! They didn't mention that the PSU whined. By chance could you have received a bad one? Did you have yours shipped to you? Or did you pick it up? I would really like to know.
I really like what I have read about this PSU. I think that it would be a great fit in my Antec SLK3000-B.
Season's Greetings!

I picked it up at a shop. It seems like all the reviews i read about it says its a great PSU, most on this forum i think would agree. I searched google and posted a thread on spcr and it seems im not the only not with the wine though. I have not bothered opening up the unit and try to find out wich coil it is that buzzes.. Wery annoying, there is no way you can know before buying if it will have the noise or not. It might also just be the european version..
