socket 478 choices - want opinions

Post by wooglin » Sun Jan 02, 2005 5:47 pm

Current System Specs:
Asus P4R800V-Deluxe mobo
Celeron D 2.66 (533FSB)
Kingston HyperX DDR333 2x512MB

Looking to upgrade to a P4 but not sure what to get.

Options include:
3.06GHz with 533fsb
3.0 GHz with 800fsb

I know my mobo will support either proc, but this ASUS has issues when it comes to DDR400 memory. So I guess the questions are, should I stick with the 533FSB to ensure current compatability, or future-proof by getting the faster FSB, both are basically the same price, so which way to go?

Would the 800fsb be compatible (throttle back / underclock) to run with the DDR333 memory? Is this just a dumb question, should I just stick with the 533fsb?

TIA for your opinions, or just the simple whack upside the head to set me straight.

I don't know which one is best.

But my Asus P4R800-VM is running a 2.8GHz P4 with 800MHz fsb and DDR333 just fine.

So basically, if I go
533fsb - I lose the upgrade path to anything faster than DDR333 (see question below)
800fsb - will work with DDR333, plus I still have a path to faster in the future

or the slap me upside the head question: does fsb have any correlation to memory type?
