hi got an old (and hot) athlon 1.4ghz. my mobo can only handle up to a 2000+ palomino core chip. would this run cooler than my current chip? its consistantly around 55°! (case 45°). (i have a nexus nx-3000 and the nexus heatsink too)
cheers, Gehan

What motherboard is it?
Hello:
What motherboard do you have and have you looked for a newer BIOS? Since the socket has not changed in years (try that with an Intel!), then it is fairly likey that they would update it to support even Tbred's.

If you go to the weblinks section and go to information (on 2nd or 3rd page), you'll find a link to a page on processor electrical specs. Compare the power consumption of both chips. I'm assuming you've got an old Thunderbird core which is 74 watts IIRC. I think a Palomino 2000+ is likely less than that - and at a similar die area, should make it easy to cool.

The Tbred 'B' are lower than the the 1st Tbred's
Hello:
The Tbred revision 'B' is a bit lower than the first Tbred's -- they added a metal layer (total is 7) and they minimized many of the hot spots, so they run cooler and they can run much faster, as well. If the FSB is supported then in all likelyhood the processor is supported.
