After reading through this forum and elsewhere i have decided to go with the LX-6A19 Black case from coolcases.
Im unsure of which fan setup to go with.
I was thinking of using the Thermaltake Hardcano 13 for fan speed control. http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDe ... 140&depa=1
Is anyone using the factory Globe fans with voltage mod or fan controller with decent success? Are these Globe fans ball or sleeve bearing?
Should i get the case with the JMC120L fans for $109 or the same mods with the factory fans reinstalled at $87.99?
Coolcase Link: http://www.coolcases.com/cart/case_compucase_lx6a19.php
As has been mentioned here before, i had been considering the LX-6A19 at directron for $36 with no mods. I hate the silver besel though and it seems worth it to go the coolcase route for a better looking case with the fan grills punched and grommeted.
Any advice on which coolcase version to go with would be appreciated.

Get the black one from Directron, the cost difference is significant. I also was hesistant about the bezel but the silver bezel looks better in person than it looks in the photo. It would look good with a silver fan speed controller

I bought a Compucase 6919 from Servercase. Very similar to the 6A19 only larger. http://www.servercase.com/miva/miva?/Me ... vel+Server

Punched out the fan grills and installed grommets myself. Very easy operation but a little messy if you use a die grinder like I did.

Good luck.

Does the Directron case come with the Globe fans? From a thread i read here: http://forums.silentpcreview.com/viewto ... a17540b31d
The Globe fans get a pretty good review.

Im wondering if the Globe fans Coolcases uses are the same ones. He mentons the following " the included fans are two Globe 120x25s, and these are equally feature laden: they are true variable speed, and have a remote thermistor One caveat--they also are apparently of typical OEM-qualtiy, for no MTBF rating is given at the Globe fan site"

The Globe I received with my case (from Directron) is quite when undervolted.

It is the S1202512L-3M. Sleeve bearing.

Wedge,
How long ago did you order from directron? Did you get 2 120 fans or just the one? And did it come with a PS? I had read here that others had recieved the LX-6A19 from directron with the stock PS and 2 fans even though their description states 1 fan and no PS.
Also does the front grill have open louvers? I havent been able to tell how open that area is from any of the pics ive seen.

I ordered the case back in the summer, around June or July (can look up the exact date if you wish).

It came with one fan only, the Globe. It was supposed to be without a PSU, but it arrived with the HEC in my sig (Herochi is the brand).

The grill is indeed open and I might add that it is more secure than the one on my 3700AMB.

The silver portion of the front bezel seperates quite easily once the small I/O panel door is flipped down. This insert is hollow and about 1" thick; has a nice screened filter on one side and the louvers on the other side. I can't understand why anyone would want to hack this thing up to try to make it more open since it has more than enough flow area.

Aesthically, I don't know what you think about the case, but for building a quiet PC, you can't go wrong with this one. It has everything you need.

I have the side vent open so the zalman 7000 can suck some fresh air through, but I don't think that it is a necessity. Most guys here probably seal their's off, but my PC is barely audible. At night, with concentrated listening, I can distinguish it from ambient noise. The fact that it is on the carpet and under my desk helps a lot.

decisions decisions if it only comes with one fan, then thats another $8-12 for a 2nd one.
I know Nessism says the silver looks better in person, but im still not convinced.
Coolcases also has the Firewire option for another $10, comes with both fans, is all black, ships from Minnesota, grill punching is done...
So for the case from coolcases im looking at $117.36 shipped.

Directron would be $56.87 shipped but would require a 2nd fan add $12 for $68.67 plus $15-20 for the firewire port option and im up $88.67.
So $30 more gets me the case the way i want it, dont have to buy the tin snips or the other materials. I guess i have made up my mind.
I would certainly go with the Directron case for future client builds , but for my new PC im a little more picky.

L,

I think you have already made the right decision, but I was just going to second the coolcases choice. The globe fans are a good. I have some that I bought from coolcases and the owner is a good person to deal with. If you have any question about other options I'm sure you could call him. His name is Jim Hanson. I also have a hardcano 13 controller which is another good choice and it will really look good in a black case w/o a door. Its definitely worth $30 to get an extra fan, puched grills, and ordering everything from the same place. - FG

What fan are you using for your cpu cooler?
Just out of curiousity I will see how the globe works with the harcano.

The globe has a sleeve bearing. I was just looking a my globe fans and they have a thermisistor. I would probably leave this on even if you control the speed through the hardcano because it doesn't affect the speed
very much.

Thanks Frank,
Im going with the stock HSF on the AMD 64 3500+ Winchester on an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum. Im in the early stages of putting this together and wanted to get my case picked out and then move on from there. Im open to suggestions for a quiet HSF for the 3500. No overclocking to be done.
Yes i saw that the Globals have the thermistor and was thinking i should remove them before hooking them up to the hardcano.
Funny i have always stayed away from Sleeve bearing fans, and was surprised to read that review on the Globals. I imagine the MTBF has got to be less than the Ball bearing fans.
Let me know how the test goes with the Globals and the hardcano.

I tell ya i read a review that said the Firewire option for the LX-6A19 cannot be hooked up to the motherboard as it has a standard firewire plug on the end of it. It can be seen at Coolcases site. So with that said now im reconsidering the Directron case. Ugg i love this stuff, i have looked all over for a good looking black case with 2 120's and no door and its tough to find them. I have a feeling that after having my good looking but noisy Lian Li for the last few years that this plain ole LX-6A19 may be somewhat of a let down.
I picked up a Silverstone Temjin SST-TJ05-BT the other week and i should have heeded the warnings of it being a big case. Its on Ebay now as it just took up to much room on my desk. Awesome case though, too bad. Anyone interested there are still 4 days left on the auction.

L,

After admiring a Coolermaster Wavemaster for a while, and then getting a $50 3000b I was disappointed in the fit and finish, but I'm over it now and steel seems to be quieter.

Yes it does seem a bit ironic that sleeve bearings are the favorites here. Ball bearing models are more fragile and seem to be noisier. That goes for all of the recommended fans here - they are almost all sleeve bearing models, but case and power supply manufacturers go with ball bearing models becasue they should last longer. - FG
