Truer words have never been spoken that's why companies produce more then one product and that's also why there's more then one company.

I'd say however most people don't mind doors as they hid all those miscolored 5.25" drives

Talking about pleasing, it's a shame Antec wouldn't produce a black P180... In silver, it looks like a fridge... :P

Also is the release date still set for the end of this month? I'm looking to buy one as soon as I can.
Well, unless I get word that a black version is on the way soon after... Then I would wait.

According to the PC Magazine article:

Quote:
The P180 will be shipping in Q1 of 2005, and will probably cost around $169 (MSRP).

Of course, if AntecRep can chime in with updates it'll be much appreciated.

I called Antec recently and they still had no information about a release date... I am definately eagerly awaiting any news though. And I'd love a review to go with it :-)

Does Thermaltake PurePower 680w fit in Antec P180? Thermaltake seems to be quite deep. Normal PSU is 150mm(L)x140mm(W)x86mm(H) and Thermaltake is 150mm(L)x165mm(W)x86mm(H). That picture explains why I'm quite worry, if I buy that case: http://www.thetechlounge.com/image.php?img_url=articles/ces_05_antec/images/79.jpg There is quite small space to big PSU.

If that Thermaltake doesn't fit, maybe I have to think some another PSU. Somebody who knows, could tell me some real info. Thanks. =)

Edit: The Phantom 350 W in that picture is 159 mm deep.

Don't start bugging him with PM's for things like this. If you have been around here long enough, then you know he can't (read: probably isn't allowed to) give this type of information.

If you bombard him with PM's he can't answer, then he might decide to just go away.

I can accept an answer of "I can't confirm that yet..." but if the statement on techlounge was the release would happen in the first quarter of 2005... they should be able to confirm something. Q1 is already 60% complete.

I deal with new product launches all the time, and I know how uppity customers can get when you don't hit a launch date.

Just waiting for info, when it does finally launch I'm sure the headlines will read 'worth the wait'

Hi all.

Judging from the photos do you think it will be possible to mount a Black Ice Pro II Radiator at the top of the P180, preferably making use of the precut 120mm Blowhole?

Reason why I won't post dates/confirm dates:

Every date I've ever been given for a product launch has always been pushed back in the 7 years I've been at Antec (I'm talking about dates flung around the office). Such that until it's in the warehouse (in Fremont), it's not here in my mind. So why that happens?

a) final production sample not up to our standards (this has happened a few times now). This sucks BTW, but we'd rather get it right.
b) manufacturing delays (either labor, parts availability etc)
c) shipping delays (notably bad weather, dock worker strikes or rarely customs)
d) testing of early samples shows a flaw and we have to retool/redesign.
e) packaging/manual issues (fairly rare now, previously shoddy quality/bad images etc etc)

I think that covers it. Also bear in mind we're doing everyting we can to get everything shown at CES out as soon as possible.

And PM'ing me about this at best gets, "I don't know." Normally I ignore them, especially when there's a well read thread about the product/s in question.

Some other things to keep in mind:
It takes up to 2 weeks for the channel to get the new stuff after we get here in Fremont (basically once you see a webpage for a new product you can be sure it's at least been in our Fremont warehouse). Normally though places will show it as in stock within a week (ie since Newegg has a warehouse in CA it doesn't take them too long to get it).

Canada: Figure 2 to 3 weeks after we get in Fremont. This depends of course the various Canadian distributors have ordered the new stuff.

Europe: Can be up to 2 months later, however we want to get this to the point that we can launch products there at the same time as North America.

Be sure that some of us are *very* happy that you're around to answer these questions. I'm waiting patiently over here in the background 'til the P-180 pops up.

Please have patience with those who cannot be, as the rest of us value your expertise. : )

(I will admit to a bit of finger-twitching in anticipation, however.)

I know you nobody can give an exact 'release date' as such about the P180, but does anyone have a general clue to what time frame we are talking about, or what stage they are up to?

I just bought a lot of components from the US, having them shipped to me in Australia, and I'm hoping that it'll be out here, or in the US at least, within the next 2 months.

If anyone has infomation it would be greatly appreciated.

54cm H (21.3") x 20.5cm W (8.1") x 50.7cm D (19.9") according to the Antec press packet they handed out at CES. I wouldn't think those would change much from the prototypes to the final retail version.

Ah, I actually thought it would be bigger... I hope there's room enough in this thing for me. Coming from a small POS Antec Super Lanboy I feel a need to compensate :p

Well, if you bend your leg up like this, and tuck your foot in there, and...

[sorry, have a Lian-Li PC71, wouldn't be surprised if I DID fit in there!]

To paraphrase AntecRep and the article:
Originally planned for End-Feb-'05 release, but last-minute production issues or design concerns may delay any product. When it shows up on the Antec website, it'll be "released", and you can expect general availability in the US about two weeks later.

Since it still hasn't shown up on the website, you're looking end-of-March at the earliest. At this point, I'm being patient.

It is always impossible to say "exactly" when a product will arrive in a
particular market. For example, unforeseen and unpredictable delays in
shipping or customs clearance can sometimes result in extra weeks of delay
despite our best efforts. I think we can safely say that the P180 will be
available around the end of April.

I found this on a website after putting "antec p180 april" into google.

Well, I'm definitely getting one, unless it's nowhere near as good as the specs say. My only doubt was that I have paid good money for three smart drives, and I would want a case that can accommodate them.

It looks like I'll be able to stick two in the lower compartment and one beneath the optical drives, but that raises a question, how well is the optical drive cage dampened for vibrations (and sound)?

With my current case (a relatively inexpensive chieftec case), I have no problem hearing everything happening with my optical drives, and I can feel the vibrations from them if I place my hand on top of the case. As such, I would hesitate to screw a HD (even if it is in a smart drive) directly to the metal of the optical drive cage.

Are the optical drives also suspended with silicone grommets?
