I just got an Aerogate 2 to monitor temps, and set fan speeds. Now it won't let me set fan speeds. I set them lower, and then they go up again even though temps are still in the low 30s. Is it because I didn't connect the cpu fan to this piece of crap?

you need to connect the fans you want to control to it.

What was the point of that comment?

?

from what i understood from your initial post, you didn't connect your cpu fan to your controller. then you mentioned you tried to change the speed, but the fan(s) didn't respond very well?

so i thought you tried to change the cpu fan speed without connecting it to the aerogate.

:?

The Aerogate 2 is not a thermal fan controller. All the temperature side does is show the sensor value and give an alarm if a set temperature is exceeded.

Fan speed control is purely manual adjustment. If your fan voltage settings are not holding over time, there's a fault in however the electronics should remember them.

The problem you've encountered is that the fan speeds up even after you turn the knob all the way down. It has been the case for the aerogate 2 and i couldn't stand it, I just sold it away.

Do you have no control over the fan speed at all, or is the range in which you can control limited? I have encountered the latter while trying to control relatively high-speed fans (in my pre-SPCR days :)) which would only go down a little bit in speed. If I turned the knob down, the fans would momentarily go down in speed, only to spin up again a second later. I think there is some sort of speed control circuitry in there.

I still use the Aerogate, I just use Zalman Fanmate 2s between the A and my 120mm Nexus fans, allowing them to go down to about 400rpm. The 120s only had a range between 800 and 1000 without the fanmates, it's 400-900 now. The 80mm Nexuses go down to about 850rpm without Fanmates so I'm happy enough with those.

I have little control: I turn the knob to the left and fan speeds go down slightly and then move up again. This is worst for my vga card. I have a ti4200 with zalman heatsink, and a 120mm fan cooling it. The Aerogate insists on running it at 2000rpm no matter how often I turn it down. My 140mm exhaust fan is not permitted to go below 1800 rpm. The damm thing that was supposed to make my box run quieter makes it sound like a damm vacuum cleaner.
In fact when I searched the coolermaster site they did say that the fans are not actually user controlable; this 'option' would show up on the next version.

I think the comment on the CM site was meant to state lack of automatic fan control... but I may be mistaken. I do know the controller puts out the PWM equivalent of the 7 to 12V range (or should anyway) and does incluse some sort of circuitry that keeps rpms at a minimum level.

What is the max rpm of the two fans you mention? If the unit will only run your fans at max rpm all the time, it's broken or useless for your fans... in both cases a return action might be in order.

140mm exhaust fan? As in case exhaust fan? Or do you mean a 14cm PSU fan like the super-flower? Just curious...

Mine Aerogate II starts beeping when CPU fan isn't connected. Maybe you must connect CPU fan as well? If you don't want then connect VGA fan to Aerogate's CPU fan control.

teejay:
The 140 mm fan is a Papst 6424 24 vdc 1.1 amp fan, which I purchased at Princess Auto. The unit does not run the fan at max; I think the fan can run at 3000.
The vga fan is an Antec 120mm. I suspect that since most vga fans are 40-50mm and run at a few thousand rpm that the fan is programmed to run at what the company thinks is a very slow mininum, but which sounds very loud on a 120mm.

Too late, I've returned the Aerogate.

Does anyone know a good fan controller/temp display/rpm display?
(For me a fan controller which does not display rpm is not good enough.)
