How to dampen fan vibration?

Post by Keitaro » Sun Apr 20, 2003 11:58 am

I have 3 Vantec Silent 80mm fans, and outside the case they are as quiet as can be.. but inside they are louder than my CPU FAN!!! I have the Antec SX835 case, which all have clip in fan mounts. How oculd i reduce the vibration on these fans?

I heard that fan grills can cause impedence. How much noise does this make?

No they only have little holes for the mount, then you put the fan into the mount. No screws here

So I was thinking about cutting out the fan grills. Does that do much to reduce the noise?

I meant when i hook up the fan outside my case (I have a celeron 400 that is quiet where i test teh fans) , I can't hear them. When i put them in, it gets loud.

As for the fans, The front bezel fan i cannot hear at all. My rear exauhst, gives me a whir and its blowing straight into a fan grill which is what I think is causing a lot of the noise. I have a HDD ocoler which i know is loud cause the hrad driev is making it loud

Well I didn't underovlt anything cause I don't want to kill my PSU and I have no idea what i'm doing, but removing the fan grill took it down 2-3 db. There is still a hum, but not as noticable. It is pretty quiet now, and i can bearly heari t over my speakers which are at low volume. Only problem is my CPU is relaly hot now, 48C idle, 55 full load. Is this ok temps?
