K8NS-939 and Cool n Quiet
I just bought a Gigabyte K8NS-939 board and 3000+ cpu.
I have managed to enable cool n quiet so the cpu throttles itself down 1GHz. The cpu temperature is at 26 degreees.
The only problem is the fan wants to run consistently at 3500 rpm.
Is there a way to get the board to slow down the fan?
If not can i just use a fan mate on the stock amd hsf ?

well, um, why not? I am assuming your board has a minimum setting for fan speed, some sort of one. Zalman's at like 1400-ish rpm normally dont tip off the bios to say IM GOING TO DIE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA and shut down on you.
you just need an rpm meter from that fan to connect to the motherboard, I believe fanmates also carry over rpm meter wire to the board. if not, any decent rheobus.

yeah old song.

it's right under CPU/AGP/RAM voltage adjustment.ga-k8ns-939 wrote:yeah, they have left the smart fan out on the budget board. i feel like an idiot for skimping on $30.
at a cool 24 degrees, my fan won't go below 3000rpm.
can you explain again why i shouldn't use a fan mate on the stock heatsink? i can't see why it's a problem ?
try Ctrl-F1 to bring out everything in the bios menu
btw, i have never tried the smart fan control with stock cooler, when i swapped a nexus 120mm real silent to zalman 7700, and enable smart fan control, the fan just stopped after the machine start booting to windows. so, i hook all the fans back to coolermaster muskeeter and keep them at 6V.
