MS IE. Two open for SPCR and perhaps two others open on other sites.

i usually have about ten open (FF).. i'll go to a forum and open each topic that sounds interesting in a new tab.. then close that forum window and work through each topic..

da fox, 2-4. typical recipe is to browse the mainpage, middleclick up a tab on anything remotely interesting, lurk forums, tab up the new posts.

i hear rumors that ie7 will have tabs, too. that may spike things when it comes.

HTTP is a "sessionless" protocol. This means you can keep as many windows open as you like, and it won't affect the server unless you are loading or refreshing a page.

Seeing as it was brought back--

Opera, which I guess classifies as "other".

Currently seven tabs containing stuff I keep for reference (they come back after browser/OS shutdown). One tab for MSN Webmessenger (too lazy to download a client), one for IRC. Currently three others with current stuff I have going on, including the one I'm currently typing in.

The amount varies from the seven up to maybe 35 when I enter a forum in the morning and mercilessly open threads in background from the view posts since last visit page.

Voted "IE or other, >5".

It sometimes scares me how much memory firefox uses when you have over 5 windows open!
I got 5 tabs open at the moment and it's using 66Mb of memory!!!
My record is ~190 tabs at 1.26gb of memory on my poor machine with only 512mb of ram :(

That linky extension can be dangerous.
