high-power PSU tested by C't

Post by jojo4u » Tue Sep 13, 2005 1:18 am

The german magazine C't tested high-power supplies in the issue 17/05.
I'd like to present you the PSU which scored over 75% efficiency at 20% load and over 80% efficiency at 50% load at 240V AC.

Code: Select all

Acbel ATX-550CA-AB8FM
Amacrox AX500-60LN
Chieftex CFT500W
Elanvital EVP-5007-00
Enermax EG495AX-VE(W)(24P)
Fortron-Source FSP460-60GLN
Seasonic S12-500 (SS-500HT)
Sharkoon SHA480-9A
Silentmaxx Semi-Fanless 450W
I can't give you more detailed figures since there is only a rating "good" if the efficiency reaches the already mentioned levels.

Below 0.5 sone at 20% and 50% load:

Code: Select all

Amacrox, be quiet! BQT P5-470W S1.3 2-fan, Elanvital, Enermax, Revoltec RBS-450V2, Seasonic, Sharkoon, Silentmaxx
The Seasonic is by far the most silent at 100% load.

Thanks for the post jojo4u,

Unfortunately, I could not find the review online (not that I read German but I wanted to glance at the figures).

According to some tests, it would be quite a challenge to achieve 100% load in a non-SLI system seehere, a Seasonic S12-430 only needed to supply 214W to a high-end P4 system running PCMark04).

So I would be more interested in efficiency and noise figures at the 20-50% range.

Also, according to this article, most of the power is drawn from the +12V rails, so I'd also be interested in the power distribution between rails.

Since SLI is not really interesting to SPCR I left out the 100% figures :)
The C't is a first of all printed magazine but you are able to buy the articles online.
There are no additional figures about efficiency or power distribution. But i scanned the noise figures available here. The noise level is in sone, the transparent columns are with fan speeds set to highest level.
Btw, the PSU participating were

Code: Select all

Since I don't read German anyway, I'll pass.

Which says to me that nothing C't tested beats the S12-500 at 50% load (and it was practically silent at 20%). Nice!

I just hope that the annoying incompatibility with DFI will be solved soon...
