Nice P150, aren't you going to blacken the whole thingie? It will shorten the super pi calculation time and increase fps

I install it in the case and it works fine, i put the front and side panels on and get ready to take some pictures. Now at this point my fancy freshly painted black monitoring thingie with a blue display goes poopoo, starts showing temps all between 0c and 88c, blinking randomly at different temps and eventually getting stuck on one temp or the display just fooked up with half of the characters showing up. unplug it and plug it in again, doesnt help. do the same thing again, YAY it works! for a minute, then its the same sheit all over again.

Sorry to hear that, I got that symptom after dissect my 1 probe digital thermometer (damn it costs $20-my curiousity paid lots!), first I can make it read the temp by 'touch&shake' the thermistor cable, but then it didn't show anything than "Lo" that indicated no probe connected.
After re-examine,I found that the soldering point of the thermistor probe was ripped of some PCB trace near it(I broke it :x ). Since it got no RMA or whatever, I just carefully solder the ripped off solder point to another one next to it,and it came to life again.
Hope you can get it RMAed,use acetone to get rid the paint off.

Yeah i got it RMAd no problem, i would have removed the paint with acetone but noticed that the can was empty... It evaporates damn fast even ifthe can is closed. THough it may be as long as a year since i opened the can, but i only used a tiny bit of the 0.75L can so 0.7l has evaporated.. happended to the last can too. Its always the can you need thats empty..

So i removed it with electronics cleaner, its mostly alcohol and did work pretty well though i had to scrub the panel for 15 minutes and use pretty generous amounts of the cleaner..

Ok so i got this new one now, not installed it in the case yet only put it ontop of the case and plugged in the cable. one of the sensors showed 99c after a few minutes and the buzzer started beeping, replugged it and now it seems to work fine. Needless to say im not very impressed with this Jsp-Tech Sys Guardian thing..

hi nici,

could you tell me, if the 5 1/4 " drive rail caddy on the floor of the case is removal so that the base of the case can be completely flat?

as i have have 4 hds and i wish to suspend 3 of them and lie the last one on the floor of the case on some foam.

thanks in advance.

If you mean those white plastic things wich hold the rails then yes they are removable, they have clips at the ends and doublesided tape on the back. Just take the driverails out of them and pull up in the middle :)

I dug up my speaker cloth test at the ancient silentpc yahoo group. I had the speaker cloth 2cm away from a 120mm fan which was ducted to the cpu heatsink.

Quote:
Hi all,

i've got a speaker front 'left over', its a thin black cloth
stretched onto a plastic frame. Thought it would function well as fan
guard (the cloth is 2cm away from the fans) and a dust filter.

But:
Prime95 test
without cloth: 52..53 max
with cloth: 60..61 max

even this fairly open cloth reduces efficiency a LOT. seems that
anything placed near fans hampers their efficiency a lot :(

Im absolutely shure i replied to that already, but apparently not...

Anyway, the speaker cloth may obstruct the airflow some, but the PSU fan is at the very back and the duct intake at the very front. I would think the PSU internals affect airflow much more han the cloth. And besides it doesnt have to suck all air thru the cloth, it can also suck air from the side vents in the case so i think im good.. :)

Small update.. The 3,5" disks are unplugged, and now theres a 2,5" samsung HM080JI 80Gb sata drive plugged in. now its really quiet, but still not inaudible. Maybe if i put it on the floor, but i dont want to do that. The noise is not otstrusive though, its just a very quiet whoosh where both the fans and HDD can be heard but i can only identify a specific source of sound if i stop others.

The 2,5" hdd is obviously not as responsive as the Raptor as a boot/game/application drive, but i think i can live with that considering the pretty significant reduction in noise.

Now i´ve just got to burn the stuff i rarely use, mostly videos, to DVDs so i can fit everything i need more often into 80Gb of 2,5" quietness. If i cant ill have to get another 2,5" drive, the WD Scorpio im thinking..

Okay.. The NeoHE is now officially the noisiest component in the system, even though it doesnt ramp up at all during 100% cpu load. Seems that way anyway, but even if it is ramping up its definately not doing it much. PSU fan monitoring cables should be mandatory.. What happened to all antec PSUs having this feature?

I´ve also made a box of pine wich im trying to use as a 3,5" HDD dampener, im making it out of 18mm pine and will cover the insides thoroughly with dampening :) At the moment im thinking of having the air intake at the front bottom, and a 120mm nexus fan at the back of the box. I just have to figure out how to power this fan..

The idea with the box is running encosed HDDs in an bigger enclosure with further dampening, i will use external sata interface so no performance loss. And the big idea behind that is that i can hopefully get 3,5" performance and storage capacity with 2,5" quietness 8)

I might have designed it too big at 30x30x20cm(L/W/H) but ill see how it turns out.. :D I think i coulf fit eight drives in there no probs..

Now im tempted to build my own wooden case.. for the whole computer i mean. Woodworking is quite fun, its been a while since i did something.. Next up is speaker enclosures i think.

The 2,5" hdd idles at 28c, and all other temps have dropped by a degree or two after removing two 3,5" drives.

Ill get some pictures up on the wooden box tomorrow hopefully :)

Almost forgot, my new soundcard arrived today! :D Its an ESI Juli@(julia) card, with support for basically anything. MME/WDM, DirectSound, ASIO 2.0, GSIF 2.0, 16 channel midi, not that id use that for anything, digital(SPDIF and optical) with Dolby Digital support and analog in/out..

Should be able to bypass the evil windows kmixer with this thing.. :)

I'm assuming the words "PANTTI-PANT" on the top of your installation beer refer to a recycling deposit (the equivalent of the German "Pfand") and not a naughty Welsh village?

AFAIK there is no link between my beer-can and a naughty Welsh village

So yes its the same thing as "Pfand", pantti in Finnish and pant in Swedish.

Update, after having VERY ANNOYING problems with this piece of shit, as discussed here and here, i finally got the sucker working. For some reason the LG drives simply refuse to work with this computer, even after changing mobo, cpu, hdd, memory, and reinstalling winsheitos(doesnt that sound like some kind of cereal?).

So some new specs here,

A new Ultra-D mobo
A 3700+ San Diego 39c at load.

The point is that after replacing the mobo and CPU the damn ODD turns out to be the problem. ANNOYING AND EXPENSIVE!!! Oh and by the way, the LG ODD works perfectly in my other computer, wich is why i was shure it wasnt broken. And i was even more shure it wasnt broken because its a unused new drive i got when i returned the last drive wich had the same problems, discussed in the earlier threads i linked to.

So now here it is, IN ALL ITS GLORY, with stock coolingn on chipset and CPU. halleluja!

Sexy stock shitset cooler at about 3000rpm
Image

Front view, notice the very high-class desk its mounted on along with the super-secure mounting of the ODD.
Image

Inside view, the piece of poo LG drive pollutes the picture but that cant be helped now. Actually you cant really see it, its behind the cables and you can only see the NEC.
Image

Another angle, you can see the worlds first duct for a P150 made out of if 0.75mm polycarbonate and only uses one 5,25" slot here, bottom view.
Image

Another bum view, you can see the zalman PSU i used when troubleshooting here.

Side view.

Any an all and all and any comments are welcome, no matter what sexual orientation, if any, they represent.
