Of course they do, it's quite obvious when looking at the weight.

Zalman ZM80D-HP: 350 g
BeQuiet Polar-Freezer: 480 g
NorthQ 3801 Triple Power: 500 g

What about Thermalright V1 Ultra? Still not sure if you can run it fanless, but it looks like one of the most advanced VGA HS out there.

I use a ZM80C with an undervolted 92mm Nexus. Its silent in my case, as long as it's below 12v. I have the X800 XT PE, so you only need a little air to more than adequately cool even a hot video card.

It is certainly possible to have a fanless heatsink and maybe even more with a BTX style case. If you look at the Gateway machine you can see what I am talking about. I have had no luck finding such a thing for my BTX Dell system... :(

Of course, but that's a Propietary VGA Card from Gateway, and of course they will go BTX.

Dell do that stuff as well.

Mats, would you mind posting some pictures of your ducted CM80? It sounds like something that could really catch on, given Arcitc Cooling's (the only one using a duct so far) low-quality assembly.

Of course they are! Thermaltake Schooner handle it on the 7800GT but at 100*C. Completely fanless only exhaust 120mm at 5v. I must mod first the clip mounting because its not compatible with geforce 7 series. I made it in "ghetto" style but it works... and i think good...

I would like to, but it's in my brothers computer, 700 km from here.
Just try and see if you can make something good out of it. My second bottle was a success, used the first one for testing. Just remember to cut off the bottleneck where it's less than 80 mm, then cut it open from top to bottom, and then bend it apart so it fits a 80 mm fan, since you want some space for the card it will surround.

I emailed Scythe about this product again a month ago and here's what they said:
As for the VGA cooler, we are currently developing it (yes still....) to make sure the easy installation and high performance. I do not have the exact date for the release, but you are more than welcome to contact me or simply visit our website to find the product (when it gets ready).

I think the answer might be to get an Nvidia card and undervolt it. ATI cards cannot be undervolted (without keeping the warranty anyway) and Nvidia cards have dynamic clock gating technologies that would be complemented by undervolting. So in other words, get an Nvidia card and undervolt it. Then find something that can keep it cool at load and you are set.

How about H2o? I'm getting tired of waiting on Thermalright/Arctic Cooling/Zalman to release their x1900xt compatible coolers. It's tempting to construct a contained GPU loop just for kicks.

Hey mates i've wrote that Thermaltake Schooner cools very well nVidia 7800GT... max temp i've noticed using that FANLESS was "only" 100*C:) I've must only modify the mounting system and voila! works! Little ghetto mounting but works at all...

I know there is a retail heatsink made for cooling GF 6800 FANLESS.
The problem is that I cant remember its name or where ive seen it..

My plan is to buy it, undervolt my 6800GT by 0.1 v and try this cooler.

Are you saying there's a fanless VGA cooler made specifically for the GeForce 6800? For VGA cards in general there are fanless coolers such as the VM-101/102 from Aerocool, Zalmans ZM80 models, the Polar Freezer from Be Quiet, some coolers from Thermaltake and probably from other manufacturers but I've never heard of a fanless VGA cooler manufactured with the sole intention to cool a GF 6800.

The Scythe fanless VGA cooler looks very promising (if they ever release it).

Arctic-Cooling Accelero S1 passive VGA cooler. Don't know if it's for high-end VGAs though. There's no information out as of now.

After using a VM-101 for over a year and now looking at the VM-102 I brought back from the UK (waiting for a 7900 GT), I am confident that it's possible to build a passive VGA cooler for upto 120 W of heat.
My concept has 6 heatpipes, four going to the back of the card, two to the front-left, both soldered to aluminium fins.
The VM-101 (and even more the VM-102) could have about 30% more fins soldered to the heatpipes (and each fin could have 10% more area), increasing the overall dissipation area by 40%. With 4 heatpipes instead of 2 it should be able to dissipate ~80W. For the front-left part, half of the heatsink and heatpipes used on the back, and airflow from the back of the case through an open slot should provide the other ~40W of cooling.
I believe this 6-heatpipe concept, when built, wouldn't weigh more than 400 g, which is the weight of the VM-102.
