Thinkpad R50e Celeron M: what a loser I am

I am a goner. There is no hope for me. With my IBM Thinkpad R50e
1834NV1 Celeron M 1.40GHz, my ears will never depart the fan for more
than 90 seconds, during its 54-62 degree temperature cycling.

Laurent Gilson in linux-thinkpad writes: "After reading up on the
Celeron M, I don't think you can stop the fan. Summary based on the
intel papers:

The celeronM is using <16W in deep sleep, <28W in working mode.
The pentiumM is using <2.9W in deep sleep, <31W in working mode.

You have about 14W too much heat."

I will do like Mother Nature, open it up and put its testicles on
the outside.

I don't think Celeron M CPUs have advanced power management instructions like Speed Step which makes them cheaper to manufacture.

Anyway, that really sucks. Your only recourse is to either deal with it or buy a Pentium M CPU and drop it in.

I think Intel disable SpeedStep in CM just to make PM more attractive, it's not a question of manufacturing cost.

jidanni: UNDERVOLT IT! It's your only hope. I don't know if it's possible with your laptop, but you should really try. Since it's only running at 1.4 GHz you can possibly lower the Vcore pretty much.

Since it dosen't use SpeedStep you can also try a pin mod if software won't allow undervolting. Check Intel Datasheets, page 15.
