I use a 100 Ohm 5W rheostat to undervolt each of my Panaflow (120's and 80's, L1A's and H1A's) case and CPU fans on a one-to-one basis. No voltage regulator, no PCB, minimal soldering to set up. A variation of Cliff A's original setup (that's where I got the idea). No trouble for over a year of almost 24/7 use. They don't seem to get hot, and the fan speed range is perfect.
I have seen some of the senior members promote the fancier undervolting solutions (commericial or homebrew) as safer/more reliable. Can someone enlighten me as to why?
Thanks!
