Time to climb up the upgraditis ladder. I have managed to make my 1st silent PC (thanks to everyone for the previous input I love you all). Though I am content with what I have, I feel there is scope to improve it further.

My spec:

Antec SPCR black P-180 case
AMD 3200 64 processor
Scythe Ninja PASSIVE
Foxcomm Main board
WD Caviar 16 320GB SATAII
512MB Sapphire Radeon X1300 PCI-E Graphics card
Nesteq 450W Semi fanless PSU

Silent comments:

Scythe Ninja PASSIVE keeps CPU around 37 degrees C
Passive Graphics card
PSU runs cool to the touch and fanless

Noisy comments:

The Western Digital Caviar 16 SATAII HD can be heard churning away
The top mounted tricool Antec fan can be heard making a faint whisper

My request:

Quick, easy to install method to suspend the HD in the Antec p180 lowest chamber next to PSU?

I'm thinking to slap in 120mm Nexus fans?

Solutions:

erm thats where YOU come in, PLEASE HELP?

1. Turn off the blowhole fan, you don't need it for good cooling. In fact, tape the grill shut, see how that does for you.
2. Put some foam in the bottom cage, then put the harddrive on the foam. Works good for me.
3. Get 1 Nexus for the rear exhaust, maybe one for the PSU chamber. I don't know how hot the PSU will get before the fan kicks in, but I'd imagine it will be louder than a Nexus. I use a passive PSU with a Nexus blowing at it at 650rpm. The cooling chamber should keep the PSu nice and cool enough to keep the fan in the PSU from kicking in though.

You can try mounting the HD using stretch magic this has been tried by many here, and seems to work good. as for the fan you can try to under volt them or use http://www.acoustiproducts.com/en/ultra ... mounts.asp this may help.

Sidenote: heres how one SPCR member did the stretch magic method

Hi guys thank you both for the replies.

Shadowknight:

I'll close that top hole like you said. It gives a direct sound path upwards to me so that should help reduce noise.

I'll get a Nexus for the rear exhaust just as you recommended. I'm in the UK, whats the best place for a white and black one?

SD-Plissken:

Awesome tip there mate. I've just ordered some in 1.8mm length. I'll have a play about with the search to see what it spits up about stretch magic but if you know of any good links with that stuff lemme know.

I reckon after the implimentation of these 2 tips my PC will be absolutely silent.

Sorry dude, I don't know if there are any places that carry black and white Nexus fans in the U.K.
