Can the ATI X800-XL control the speed of a Zalman VF700 just like it controls its stock fan?

It's possible to change VF700 fan mount to connect to graphic card directly. I did it with my Sapphire X800XL. Fan speed can be controlled by stock firmware. If you are not happy with it, ATI Tray Tool can control fan speed. and it spins depend on GPU temperature. I feel a bit safe compare to manual knob.
Default fan speed is a bit high, 50% when idle (<50C). I changed it to 20% when idle. Here my setting using ATT.

Hi I was wondering how you were able to change the fan on the VF700? I bought the VF700cu recently and would like to connect it to my video card directly to use the temp and fan control options. Also where can i puchase this fan? thx.

for the pictures... I have a 700 coming in the mail, and I was curious myself whether I could attach it directly to the card and control the fan via ATT. My fears are now assuaged, and I'll be making that mod when I install the unit.

mission successful...
replaced the stock heatsink with the zalman unit, and attached the fan to the onboard fan header. Point of note... the wiring on my zalman, did NOT match the wiring of the stock fan.. I had to pull the wires out of the 3 pin block, and rearrange them in the correct order, before reinserting.
Pulling the socket from the card was similarly easy, but be very gentle when doing it.. you can pry it up easily with a small jewelers screwdriver, for instance... but if you break those pins off, you'll be attaching your zalman the old-fashioned way. Just gently work it up until you can slip the tip underneath the plastic, and go from there.
Dropped my idle temps 12-15c, and loaded temps by 30c or so...
needless to say, the stock heatsink/fan is a real piece of .. err.. ."work"... to put it politely.
You'd think the sapphire would have used a standard 3-pin layout for the fan header. *shrugs*

*edited note* the temp drops are from the stock config... I saved 10-15 loaded temp, from after I repasted the stock fan earlier this week.
aka, stock fan, 80c+ loaded temp, stock fan repasted, 65c+ loaded temp.. and now, the zalman, with a load temp of no more than 55c, and usually closer to 50c.. not sure what's causing it to fluctuate.. system temp staying fairly even over the same time frame.

awesome, worked for me
awesome post guys did what u guys said and worked out fine. removed fan mount with small jewelry screwdriver switched the wiring around to fit the all in wonder x800t default wire setting set the fan speeds with ati tool. so far everything working temps are lower than stock and 100x quieter.

Help needed
I connected the VF700 to an ATI X800-XL.
The fan header is different so I made an adaptor connecting the fan's red, black and white wires to the corresponding ones on the card.
Red and Black wires' positions on the headers are crossed.
However, when I connect them that way and power the computer on, the fan does not turn at all.
Is that normal?
I tried disconnecting the White wire, mo change.
The fan seems to work OK (at full speed) if I connect it to the motherboard instead.
I did not test it under load since I didn't even install an OS on the drive yet (I just assembling the hardware parts) and I am a bit nervous that I may damage the card while installing and testing.
Please advise.
