Logitech MX 510 has a high pitch sound!

Anyone else notice this? If you listen carefully, theres a high pitch sound that always on and it's driving me nuts
is there a fix for this while keeping all buttons/scroll whell working?

*I hate having over sensitive hearing

thought you meant a whine heard through the soundcard when moving the mouse.

OH YEAH you're right about the MX510. I just put my ear up to the mouse after noticing your post, and I can't believe how noisy it is. Its quite noticeable at <20 cm from my ears even when placed on a mouse mat. That probably explains some of the whine I keep hearing when I position my head in a certain direction! Laughing

Never thought about looking for a quiet mouse, I might now! Does anyone have the MX518 or any laser mice, and do they emit any high pitch whine?

I have a Razer Copperhead (Anarchy Red First Edition Wink

) laser mouse and it doesnt emit any kind of noise like my MX510s and MX518 and Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0(this was the worst) did.

So far i like it. Im right handed but this might be a great mouse for lefties, its symmetrical "Ergonomic ambidextrous design". Two buttons on each side.

When i got used to the shape of the mouse i like it more than the logitechs or microsofts.

Oh and it has a gold-plated USB connector, a must have on any mouse Rolling Eyes

The older Razer Diamondback is shaped the same, but it uses a 1600dpi optical sensor instead of the 2000dpi laser used on the Copperhead. It´s also slightly cheaper. Can´t say if it emits any noise though since i´ve never used one, but i can definately recommend the Copperhead Very Happy

I've had the MX510 for a month now and was just getting over my irritation that the Razer Diamondback plasma has dropped to my price-range, after I'd bought a new MX510 for so cheap on eBay.

Bugger.

Oh well, so far the whine isn't louder than my PC, so hopefully I'll be able to forget about this little aggravation.

Yeah, I hear my mouse whine, but I have to press the mouse against my ear to hear it. If I just barely touch the mouse with my ear, I don't hear anything.

I've only been using my mouse for about 5 weeks though. It this something that happens over time where the whine just gets louder?

I had a similar issue with my MX310 mouse. I had it originally hooked up to a front panel USB port, next to the headphone jack. By plugging my MX310 in one of the motherboard USB ports, the sound (which was heard through my attached headphones) went away. Must be interference, because my old Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical didn't exhibit it (it did have a big "donut" type thing next to the USB plug, something that my MX doesn't have)

I have the mx510 and never heard it before but after reading this post I put my ear against it and I can hear it too. But if your mouse makes as much noise as mine you must have very good hearing and you must live in a very quiet building in a very quiet neighborhood and have a VERY quiet computer.

I've been documenting this problem for years. Logitech has denied it, and they have literally shut me out from speaking to them any longer about it (demanding all communication with them be done via fax for record keeping).

The important thing to note here: none of you are alone. This problem exists, and it needs to get solved. Logitech keeps shipping out *fantastic* mice, but with this one serious problem! It's frustrating.

I'm glad my hearing isn't that sensitive. I need to place my ear on my MX510 in order to hear the faint whine.

And I was sitting here thinking, "Stop whining," and, "I'm glad I'm too old to hear sounds so high-pitched," and then I moved my mouse within a foot of my head. That's...tremendously annoying. When the laser - this is the laser mouse I got with my MX3000 - is inactive, I have to be about six inches away to hear it, and the tone is much lower-pitched. Once the laser is active, I can hear it from at least a foot away, and this is in an office with a /very/ high ambient noise level. I'm glad I haven't bought one of these for my home!

Does this problem affect Logitech's bottom-end mice? I have the least expensive Logitech optical wheel mouse, and I can't hear anything from it. Maybe my hearing is too degraded to hear such high pitched noises.

It's not a "laser" mouse (I'm not sure what exactly that means); it just says "optical". It's this model: Logitech Optical Mouse. The box just says "Logitech Optical Mouse"--no "MX" or any other distinguishing model designation.

My MX 610 cordless laser mouse has the whine, sort of like a CRT TV whine, although not as loud. Luckily, I can just turn on my Logitech Z-680 speakers, and the idle hiss from them drowns out everything else in the room.

I think all of their mid-high end opticals from a year or so back make a high pitched whining as well, I usually listen to music tho so it's not a prob.

Nici: Only issue I have with Razer mice is that they still track when it's like a cm off the table...and I reposition my mouse a lot during games really fast so it's kind of annoying. Could be the laser tho...haven't tried the new high end logitechs.

I donÂ´t really have that many mousepads to test with, a FujTech with a gel thingie and an Ulti-Mat Breathe wich both have cloth surface and the mouse works at from about 0.5cm away, maybe slightly more. I canÂ´t find my Ulti-Mat original wich is teflon coated steel, i donÂ´t use it anyway since its way too slippery for my taste. The mouse moves if i blow at it..
